Thanks. The W124 500E/E500 was a limited edition factory hot rod joint produced by Mercedes and Porsche. A predecessor to the E55 AMG, if you will.

Love the widebody they put on that car. 0-60 is in the 6s, right? Any news on the QM?

BTW, does yours have the rear sunshade?

Nice car. Put on AMG rims.

The car is officially (conservatively) rated at 0-60 in 6.1s, 1/4 in 14.7s. Actual numbers are closer to 5.5 and 13.9 (this is what owners typically run at the dragstrip).

Yep, I've got the sunshade. I believe all 500E/E500s came with virtually every W124 option.

I may get wheels tomorrow, but not AMGs. I'm leaning towards Brabus at the moment. Stay tuned...

How do you go from 6.1 to 5.5??? Seems that MB really underestamated their car? Hmmm... sounds strange. I have yet to run in with one in the GS.

Here's a quote from Lee Scheeler over at MercedesShop:

"The stats on the 500E are more than a little misleading. Especially if you ran a 0-155mph test. The M119's gain/lose so much power with temp that on my 92' 500E it has literally made the difference of 0-60 being 5.2 secs with a 13.6 @ 107.5 1/4 mile run at 65degrees F. Same car under 95+ degree temps ran 0-60 in the 6.0-6.4 range and the 1/4 mile at 14.1 @100mph to 14.7 @ 97 mph."

What kind of GS do you drive?

this is not a joint production car. Mercedes did not have the capacity to build addtional car at their own factory, so they hired Porsche for the final assembly. Not a single part was designed by Porsche.

Regardless, 500E (not e500 cuz the e designation was opted in the 96 models and so on.) is a fu*king bad *** car. Alonis Ruf (the famed Porsche tuner) has a 500E as his daily driving car. So it's says a lot....

how much did you pay for this sucker if u don't mind me asking. I would love to have one of these bad boys in my garage. It was an instant classic. And i think it might become a collector car over time since it was such a hot rod and assembled at Porsche factory. The only model who had the priveledge.

Agreed. This, other than the E55, is the only E-class I would ever buy. I love this design and the widebody, the performance sounds insane, and the limited numbers produced makes me tingle inside...

Actually, Porsche was more involved in the devlopment process than just assembly. The parts were all Mercedes, yes, but Porsche peformed much of the engineering and chassis tuning.

The designation changed in 1994. '94 models were badged E500. This is true for all models that year as well (E320, E420, SL500, etc.).

I paid just shy of $40k with 56k miles and Starmark warranty. Worth every penny, IMHO. I highly urge you to add one to your stable if the opportunity presents itself. You won't regret it.

BTW, very nice collection of cars you have there. Excellent taste.

Sounds like a beauty. I've heard many great things about the Mark Levinson audio. What color int/ext?

The ML is a great sounding system for stock.

Its a black on black with tints all around. I'm not home right now, but when I do, ill post in the off topic section.

Im looking to replace it though with a sandstone silver on black fully loaded too with 17" sport alloys. They match the car better than the chromes IMO. Anyways, sweet *** ryde you got there. if i ever see one, ill start up with them and see where it goes. hehe

Daez_Nutz, love your car, it's beautiful! Just this morning I was following a 500e, and was admiring the muscular wide stance of the car. I'm a big fan of the w124 500e/e500, it was the main rival to the old (e34) BMW M5. BTW, most car magazines had both the previous gen M5 and the 500e/e500 in the low 6 secs for 0-60.

I am soooooooo jealous. I love your car. Where'd ya get it? What'd ya pay? I swear, if I could find a good one, I'd yank my deposit for a W211...

There's somebody in my parking garage at work who has one, and I am always in agony every time I walk past it. I parked next to it once, hoping some of its coolness would rub off on my 430...

Congrats. Please drive it well!

Thanks! I know that almost any written source will tell you 6.1-6.2 sec 0-60, but it has to be a conservative number. For example, the 500SL/SL500 is rated at 6.1 sec 0-60 and 14.7 sec 1/4 mile. Now take that same engine, add about 20 lb/ft of torque (longer intake runners), and drop it in a car that weighs 300-400 lbs. less. By this rationale alone, a 500E should definitely be running 0-60 in under 6 sec. My guess is that Mercedes underrated the 500E's numbers because they didn't want it to overshadow those of their flagship sport roadster.

On another note, oh man would I love an E55 in my stable. What a beast that is!

Thanks! I found her at Autobahn Motors up in Belmont. They wanted $40k, I paid a little less than that. Pricey, yes, but only 56k miles and a Starmark warranty.

I've heard the ML is the best stock system, period. I've just started upgrading my audio, the stock setup is wimpy.

I agree that alloys work better than chrome, esp. on a lighter car. Chrome does look nice on a black car, but I always prefer machined/painted/polished. Why not pick up some aftermarket wheels? No reason to limit yourself to what Lexus offers. There are a wide variety of wheels made for your car that range from elegant/classy to outright sporty. Besides, that way you can go 19" (or 20", whatever suits you).

I'll be on the lookout for a black on black GS430. We'll have a fun run.

Word. It is the best stock sound system period. I've compared it to the Pioneer and the Nakamichi, and the Bose that I have in my CLK. It does not even compare.

The Chromes look good on the black on black, but with the silver I was looking at, it looks perfect the way it is with the alloys.

What rims are you planning on getting? I've seen the E500 w/ the 18" AMG Monoblocks, and it looked hot. That's the only one I've seen before.

What you talkin bout Willis! LOL! Dood i am there man! Mostly on the Event section.

Thanks for the compliments on the wheels and brakes! But just to let you know these pics don't do justice! If you've seen them in person you'll be like WTF?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!!? This is like on of those things that you really gotta see in person to appreciate!

Yeah the Bose setup in my CLK was garbage. Ok at moderate volumes, but totally lost composure when you cranked it.

Silver car on alloys is perfect. Are you tired of black? Silver's much easier to maintain, but nothing looks nicer than a clean, freshly waxed black car.

It looks like I'll be putting 18" Brabus Mono VI one-piece as soon as this week. AMGs look good, but they're way too common for my taste.
