Sudden loss of power + backfiring

Guys

Changed the engine harness, plugs (Bosch Supers), and air filter, within the last few months. Car started idling and running rough a week ago so I thought the motor mounts had finally gone out, changed them, this helped but another problem was still present. Check engine light had been on for a month. Independant Mec. pulled the code that said Mass Air sensor was bad, so I changed that, code is now gone but it didnt help the running. At this time it idles ok most of the time. It accelerates fine for the first few seconds but once it changes to second or third gear it starts loosing power and slighty shaking and some backfiring. What would you guys try next? OVP? Fuel filter? Coil packs?

Thanks in advance

You didnt by any chance happen to use bosch platinum +4 plugs. If you did, yank them out and replace them with copper core plugs and you'll be happy again

OK thanks for the tips, I will try the fuel filter next. Where is it located on these cars? I have replaced the OVP relay completely and no change. I have a new coil pack on the way I am going to try out in each of the three coil locations and will check the plugs (eventhough they are 3 mos old) when I do the coil pack switching. Anyone think of any other causes of this condition I am missing?

Thanks so much
Adam

Frame floor ahead of rear suspension in fuel pump assembly or similarly located on the left of frame floor in front of rear suspension, suspended separately on rubber rings.
