SEC Hood on 300CE

Hello all,

I have done some searching on the forums and did not quite find what i was looking for.

I have seen one in person and have a few Mercedes Tuner books that show W124's with SEC hoods. Particularly CE's. I have seen pics of them on sedans and wagons too!

Is this something that can be done w/o major modifications?

My cousin has a 91 300CE-24 in South America and I told him I would investigate for him.

Thanks for the help!

lots of cars
I think you have to weld the front clip of the sec hood but have you thought about a w202 hood or s-class ?

its nothing more than a 124 bonnet/ hood with a wider grille that emulates that of the 126 SECs. it covers the foglights on the 124.

i think its tacky and ugly as hell personally.

That would be very tricky, the SEC hoods were aluminum, w124 hoods are steel.

Its just the grill, like you can insert this one into the factory. but not really my style.

i think he's talking about something more like this, rather than just the grill insert

looks really sloppy IMO.. you can really tell it doesn't fit right with the headlight panels and the fog lights underneath the sec grille..

i don't think a sec hood would fit on a w124... at least not all of it... i think it's just mating the two hoods together... here's an example of it being done less well...

I heard SEC hoods are really just bolt-ons to w124...oh yea that body kit comes from a company called expressions.

really?? i can't see how the dimensions would be the same, the sec hood looks much longer...
in all the pics so far they are definitely not sec hoods though, they're w124 hoods that have been messed with, youcan tell from the lines on the top.
either way, i don't like the mod at all!

You could very well be right, but I've seen SEC hoods a few times and the lines and the convex lip near the winshield are all very similar to the w124's.

Thanks for all of the replies.

When i saw the car in person i do not remember it looking bad.

However seeing it again a few times in the pictures does make it look like it was added on and does not look even close to stock.

I might suggest to my cousin that he use a 94-95 W124 hood, or maybe just leave the stock grille.

Thanks for the help!

I actually have a 1990 300ce and the hood comes from the factory like that as an option - they usually get the wood and leather steering wheel and the 300ce removed from the back lid. I posted a pic on me facebook title thing.

BARF CITY !

Honestly you want an SEC hood on a 300CE ? Buy an SEC.

Please tell him not to batardize his W124 with such an abomination of a modification. Styling is done to suit models and shape aerodynamically and aesthetically. The later model 300CE front looks a million dollars on the earlier coupes because in essence they were the same shape. (see my signature picture which is a facelift front on an 88 300CE and Zender kit).

The SEC is nothing like a 300CE in body shape and as such the front does not suit it at all.

There was a kit called "KOENIG" from memory but it so changed the entire shape that it worked pretty well apart from the dumb yellow stripe this guy added.

But just adding bonnet and grill is a disaster.
Apologies to those that may own such a vehicle, beauty as they say is in the eye of the beholder.

And as the PO of my vehicle says - If You Like It Thats What Counts !

But honestly if he wants it to look good spend the money and import an AMG replica bodykit from Duraflex - not the snazzed up version, the AMG Gen 1 replica kit.

Compare the pictures below to that look and I think you'll see what I mean :

I like it because there usually isn't another one within 100 miles. Being the same is dull.

While being different for the sake of being different is......

I consider myself a lone wolf/ black sheep/ non insider. I'm also old enough to know being different is not necessarily a good thing.

How could you do that to your 300CE Coupe ???
That's positively ancient looking.......didn't Adolf drive one of those ?

Oh wait....sorry....it's not a 300CE

Yeah I agree been done to death.
As one guy indicated his came from the factory like that ?
Didn't know there was such an animal.

Happens every so often though when a new bunch of people join the forum.
It's a lot like you could guarantee that every single problem asked these days has been asked once before and quite probably resolved.
Unfortunately the search index doesn't always come up with answer one is after.

If you had a couple free years you could probably document all the solutions on the forums into the most comprehensive W124 repair manual ever written and make absoultely no money
