headlight replacement (upgrade) for a '95?
Hi all. new Benz owner and new to the site as well. Great place by the way. Anyway, I have been doing my best to read, read, read before I posted, but I figure it's time to start asking questions. First though, I guess I should tell ya what the car is all about.
I picked up a nicely cared for 1995 E420 Special Edition (whatever that means?) with 135K on the odometer. I have all the service receipts dating back to 1998 and bought the car from it's second owner who was your typically meticulous MB owner. It is Midnight Blue with flawless gray interior. It rolls on split spoke 17 x 8 wheels in black chrome all around (matching spare). Windows are limo-tinted.
The previous owner dropped a Performance Plus chip and a K & N filter into it. I got all the stock take-off stuff as well (i.e. chip, 16" alloys, etc.).
In the time I have been lurking I have read about the SL600 grill and euro-clear corner turn signals I can get for it. Also the different exhausts and mufflers available too. Cool! One of my headlights took a few serious rock hits and has two small holes and a crack. That said, am I best off to replace the pair with OEM parts or is there a good (improved) aftermarket setup available? Brighter is always better if the car has the amperage to drive em' I think.
Also, is there a small lip-style rear spoiler available for this body-style? I don't want anything too large or gawdy, just a little something to set off the rear a bit. I would think something that is only the width of the rear decklid should do nicely. I guess that's it for now....soooo TIA.
BTW: I'll try to get some picks of the car as soon as I can give it a good detailing and then I will post em' in the appropriate thread. Glad to have joined the family!

Congrats
I just purchased the s600 style grille myself. No word yet on how it looks, I dont go home for a few weeks yet. I also purchased smoked rear tails, and clear side repeaters for the blinkers. I also have bought (but never installed) clear corners for my car, I sold them to matt :p Good luck, welcome, and mod like crazy!

are euro headlights really an upgrade from the '94-'95 versions? I know the ones on his car are glass units already. Are the Euros brighter?
I would recommend looking into E500 headlights. The are very clear and sparkly, lol. I've heard they are higher quality as well. I'm not sure if it will require you to do any new wiring, but it's worth looking into.

The 500E lamps are 5 pin (as with the DOT Lamps)

Be weary that 500E (pre-facelift) and E500 (facelift) headlights differ from one another.
We dont want to confuse our newest friend into purchasing 500E headlights when infact he should be looking into E500.

<edit> Seems the more I read, the more I am coming to the conclusion that the "euro light" setup is not a significant improvement over the OEM lights that come on '94-'95 W124's. Does this sound correct? What benefit, if any, does the E500 setup hold over the E420 lights?
