kyb with lowering springs: yay or nay?
So i searched kyb on the forum and found three or four other people asking the same question that i have now: can i run kyb's with vogtland springs? Obviously I could do it, but from a wear-and-tear perspective, would this damage the kyb's more quickly? I figure they would be constantly compressed...
Also, are they sport or just stiff oem shocks? Are they designed for lowered applications at all? Anybody done this?
I reeeeally need new shocks, but I don't want to shell out 500 bucks for bilsteins.

i used to have kyb's on my old car, it was lowered 2" and they were fine, but that was a nissan, not a benz. zorro has koni's i think, maybe those would be another option

if you drop the car more than 30mm(i think) you need to get shorter stuts/shock. it will wear out prematurely if you stay with a stock equipment.

so your saying kyb is similar to the oem application and shocks such as bilstein would be a more beneficial investment? i ask because im currently using my oem shocks with h&r's and are quickly deteriorating

Wow, I once ran oem struts with H&R springs and it was the worst set-up you could imagine, my fillings were shaking out of my teeth.
Bilstein sports are the way to go, I've used H&Rs, Eibachs, and just bought some Intrax for the 300TE and from my experience with having three lowered MBs as well as others comments I can say Bilstein is the way to go in this regard.
Call Shox.com, you can score all 4 sports for 400.00, I just bought Bilstein front sport struts for the W124 for 140.00 each - not bad.

BILSTEIN sport Shocks/struts $449.00 set of 4
KONI sport Shocks/struts $509.00 set of 4
from shox.com
Andy,
Our shocks/struts were not meant to be lowered although a lot of people
use our shocks/struts for lowering their vehicle and are very pleased
with them but lowering your vehicle does void the warranty on the
shocks/struts.
Thank you,
Dan
KYB America LLC
That's what I got back from Kyb. Shox.com was extremely quick as well. 449 is probably the best I will be able to get on Sports. Thanks ya'll.

no, but that would be sweet. One of my friends started calling me rooney when I was like 8 and it just stuck. Probably because of the real guy named Andy Rooney. Just a nickname that I like.

Bigblue does not have the lowering springs but she does have the KYB"s on all the corners. The only other change to suspension was the E500 front and rear sway bars. The KYB's will give you what I would call a sport or stiffer ride. She feels almost like my old road race car ! Tight!! But boy she can cut some corners!! If I wanted the cushy cruiser ride I would have put in the OEM units!
