....Okay.....gentle.....on the top right hand corner of the W124 page, there is a search function that very useful; especially since everyone just went throught this...but it is okay cause this gets brought up every now and then...

I heard that 9.5 will not fit in the rear and 8.5 in the front is probably cutting it too close, even with rolled fenders and a spacer kit...someone may add on to my advice or you may just have to search.....but that is what i know....

Oh yeah, welcome....pics(post in pic thread)?

You might have a rubbing problem.
Safe bet is to use 18 x 8 with 225/40-18 tires.
Would recommend Falken F-452 tires which give excellent handling and response and low road noise.

If you roll the rear fender and switch the tire to 245/35/18 in the rear they should fit...Ive seen it done, dont know If I would.

Wow, thanks for the speedy replies guys. Why wouldn't you go for that size bjay? Will the ride be bad? Risk of rubbing? I can get the rears in 245

Not really, tires are at 32PSI. They tend to flatten when you have the wheel turned full lock. Happens to all performance tires with a narrow sidewall.

Why would you want to go larger then what the wheel well will hold?
Wheels are designed with a specific offset that allows the widest rim width (8" in the case of the M103 and M104 cars.) to fit without suspension or sheet metal interference. The tire is then sized to the rim.
Rolling fenders will give more room at the risk of having your paint crack and the wheel arch weakened. Wider the cross section, the harsher the ride. If you do normal driving look for a compromise. The E320 with standard suspension doesn't need a whole lot of rubber. I went to larger cross section as I'm modifying the suspension and braking system prior to a TurboTechnics twin turbo install.

Thanks for the advice guys, so a 7-8j/18" wheel would probably be the best compromise?

yes but g/l finding them. most wheels made for mercedes (assuming you want to go w/ something conservative like AMG monoblocks) are 8.5 wide

Dude .... Wheel width and offsets are key!!! Im talking from experience having put on my car a series of wheels .... 8" on front MAXIMUM with ET 35 and NO less or they will sit proud. Safe is 7.5" on the fronts. If you plan on lowering your ride 8" is too wide as you will require fender rolling where as 7.5" is perfect. Rears same thing 8.5" with ET35 and NO LESS, however 8" is perfect. I lowered my '95 E320 Cab with 18" 7.5" on fronts and 18"x 8" on rears and it looks right ... doesnt have that wide track look.

i will tell you what you need to know. i bought some 8.5 9.5" wheels and they dont fit. i am almost sure that 8 is the best you can do without spacers and rubbing. you don't know how bad I wanted those 9.5"ers on the back , oh well., life goes on

There is nothing wrong with you trying to be funny, and I'm not telling you what to do (I don't care what you want to write about) I'm just saying let it go and leave things where they are.

just looking out for YOU.
