valet wants my car
my car -- black with grey lower inserts. 18 in giovanni lowered on h&r with 500E front and rear sway bars with european headlights. Engine is turbine smooth inline 6 , thats rarely missed an oil change etc.
Heres the story , pull up to this club/restaurant. The attendant says valet parking only. I was a bit hestitant because I wanted to park my own car so theres no damage to it.
ANyway I call for my car on the way out 2 hours later. I spend like 20 minutes waiting..in the meantime I could have sworn I see my car zipping by once or twice...
The attendant pulls up ...and says "best car in the world", "I 've owned like this one in Europe"...
I say okay thanks , but the attendant then says " how much you want for it ? "
"sorry its not for sale " I said but he doesn't get out and he just kinda ignores what I just said and keeps asking for a price etc...tells me he can afford it, he's father is the club owner etc...
" make me an offer, "
"name some price," he keeps saying..and then says "how abou 10K.."
and I refuse him repeatedly..only when I agree that we'll talk about this on Saturday ..he takes my number and retuctantly lets me have the car ..
I have to saturday ... 10K is just enough to get for me to get into a w211 for me but at the same time these cars and rare and hard to find...so what would you do ?

tell him that with it's sentimental value, it's worth at least a good 20k but you COULD be willing to negotiate...
I had a brief run in with the dealership I originally purchased my Jetta from, they said they'd be willing to pay over KBB value for it in it's condition... I offered a sale for 18k ... and then?... I still got my 315hp Jetta![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
oh... edit... I always tell the valet that it's a finicky car and it doesn't usually start unless you turn the key a certain way and take certain steps to get it rolling (putting the car in neutral to start) ... that way, either way I go with them to park it OR they just let me park it :Y

whoa , I don't know where you guys are getting such price calculations..
this was a 50K+ car in the early 90s , we had many thousands of work for maintenance , plus the modifications are at least 5K itself.
even If you had 10K to spend in New York area, Doesn't buy you much here unless you want some disgusting color or old beaten up car..
but then again he doesn't know real market value etc.

Dude, it's called book value and unfortunately our beloved W124's this side of the 500E500 just aren't worth very much, modded, maintained or not. If you like it that much, keep it, otherwise sell it and buy a 500E for a few grand more and you have one of the best sedans on earth...

You guys are absolutely wrong , the car is worth what the demand is. If someone offers 10K then the demand says the value is 10K despite what blue book may tell you, its all in what someone percieves thevalue to be(I'm not a good speller)

95 E320 Cabriolet, 108K
Pick a price you can live with. I have a 71 Cutlass I've owned for 24 years (half my life!). It's a member of the family by now. Recently, people have stopped me on the street asking to buy it. I'm not interested in selling.... unless the price is right. But the price is a lot more than market value!

1995 E320 SE, 162,000 Miles (Sold)
You're right about the market/demand scenario. It's worth what you can get. So, do you think if I drove my car out to New York I could get more for my car (if I wanted to sell it) than other parts of the country? I always thought cars were one thing that have a fairly even value across the states. They sell for the same price everywhere when they're new, don't they? I see these cars selling on E-bay for less than $5K in good condition with 120K or less miles. What do you all think?
