Euro Headlight Conversion

Katmac had two sets of 86-93 W124 Euro headlight kits on EBAY.
Got one for $201.50 ( Katmac website price = $269.90) which included the headlights, lamps, city lights, connectors and wiring, along with the blank under light trim plate.

Anyone have any experience or comments on the quality of the TYC brand headlight?

All glass, OEM look and fit, much better priced then the plastic "Euro" styles that seem to be common.

TYC is a good brand. You get what you pay for these days anyways.

The quality IMO is Hella (even tho they go for around $900 a set now) > Bosch > Depo > TYC > all other chinese ****.

I have TYC - I got them from Katmac for about what you did. Awesome fit/finish, great beam pattern. Just ditch the bulbs they send with them and get some PIAA bulbs.

Appreciate the comments.
Agree with upgrading the main lamps.

Older you get, the more light you need at night

Fogs, too. They ship them with these dull amber bulbs. **** - a dirty flashlight puts out more light!

I have the TYCs, which I purchased from Katmac as well. They are pretty good quality, but I was surprised by how plasticy they were.

Agreed on trashing the bulbs they sent... my reason isn't so much that they are no good... it was more than one of my bulb connectors melted completely a few weeks back and I discovered that it was because they sent me bulbs that had way more wattage than the wiring could handle.

So I had to buy some new connectors online and splice them in.

Be very careful with the plastic tabs that you disconnect to get the glass lense off. They are extremely fragile and will snap off easily.

oh and regarding quality... from my research, people think depos or tycs are better simply depending on which ones they have. So the only reasonable conclusion I can make is that they are probably about the same quality.

aren't both bosch and hella OEM manufacturers for Mercedes? Just depending on year and model? Or you just mean specifically for the w124?

I'm just curious, not trying to argue with you or anything.
