How to get oil cap off

OK I decided this weekend to change my oil since it has not been changed since 2004. Well I was taking the cap off and the plastic top broke off. I didn't even bother investigating anymore. I went back inside for another St. Arnold Lawn Mower. Is there an easy way to get the oil cap off so I can change my oil this weekend. I figured I would change it being that I have only driven 2500 miles since December 2004.

For the benefit of all, whether you drive it or not, any moisture that has collected, from running the engine just 5 minutes, will react with the oil and cause it to slowly become acidic. The acid will slowly ruin your seals and eat the babbit out of your bearings. Conventional oil needs to be changed every 6 months; synthetic every 12 months, even if you only drive it 2 miles.

Refrigeration oil does not contain detergents. It will become acidic just from being exposed to the humidity in the air for a year.

What's a St. Arnold Lawn Mower have to do with changing oil?

After chipping the plastic handle with channellocks, I made a cap remover from a short length of 2 x 4 by carving out a recess for the oil cap handle. This gives me the extra grip I need without damaging the cap.

Looks good! I've never heard of it. Don't think they sell it around here.
