RBYCC you said you bought your CE new in 88. Were merc dealers as big of a-holes than as they are today? Like the sales ppl and the service?

Usually small showrooms with max of 4 to 6 cars and a service department with about 4 mechanics !!!
Excellent customer service when you bought a car and it followed through as long as you own the car.
I moved to a resort area in 2003 and the closest Merc dealer is about 20 miles away.
It's still a small store and even though I never bought a car from them I get excellent service.
If I drop a car off they give me a C-Class to drive, or they will pick the car up at my house and deliver when finished.
Fortunate that they have two mechanics that go back to the early seventies which means they are familiar with all the older models.
The big stores after the Chrysler merger / breakup lack the level of "personal" service that the small store offers !

The latest issue of the Star has a low mileage 500E asking $25K.
If you go to Hatch & Sons (Mercedes Specialists) website you'll see three very special 500E/E500 which will probably ask and sell in the $30K-$50K range.
A true enthusist will pay for a clean, well documented, low mileage example of any landmark Merc.
People like the fool who hijacked the thread talk a lot and own nothing of value...
They live on the cheap and criticize what they don't own or can afford!
If I hadn't just bought a 71 280SL, I would consider your car....
Don't give it away !!!

Many congratulations on the sale Mark,
I was due to come to CA in October as the project I was working on was due to end then....it hasnt finished yet and Im still in UK! Everything is set for me to leave but the project.
I was more than willing to pay the $18,500 USD you were asking back in October for the tremendous E500. Appreciating asset or not I would have paid that for sure, as I already took a decision on it. After you told me you had the transmission rebuilt I was more than happy.
I felt a little guilty as I would have added quite a lot of miles on the beauty and thoroughly enjoyed it, which would have made it less of a future collector's item. But I didnt care because I would have enjoyed every second with it...
Looked at E55 w210 but not in my heart and not as special
Looked at a newish LS400.... again
Looked at M3...again
But good luck to the new owner and good luck to you with the SL55!
