Well, I'm getting the transmission off him!! Waiting for him to take it off and I'll go pick it up! I'm thinking of the engine too. Since my engine sounds like a diesel :S His car had 130 something k miles on it so it SHOULD be fine for a while huh?

Thanks again YNVDIZ for giving me that link

JDW124 did your car make a whining noise when you revved the engine while driving?

I always thought it was normal, but people used to tell me it sounded like I had a turbo or something, then the other week I got my transmission replaced and apparently I had metal shards in it. Could be an easy way to tell a failing transmission

Hmmm, no whining really. Only "odd" sounds I hear, is that my engine sounds like a diesel -_- sometimes, VERY clanky, ugh.

He also said that even if he did put new gears in, they would eventually start slipping again or something. I didn't really understand what whatev, new tranny, LOL.

Really thats not what I've heard, my mechanic told me the transmissions in a W124 are one of the most reliable made. He's only ever had to replace 3

No, Prob. Sometimes you don't have to spend on new stuff. This weekend i went to the junk yard and scored a lot of stuff for $20. There where a couple of w124s with transmission but you gotta take it off yourself. I'm pretty much restoring my w124 off the junk yard parts. I got all the bulbs and window switches this weekend , my spedo gauge, and I took a bag of fuses too lol.

Um pretty sure their not the same. The W201's have the 722 series aswell but they aren’t the same models as those dropped in the W124's. My mech told me the 190E transmissions fail a lot more than the W124's and I don't doubt him

Lol you could be right but I hope you're wrong cause I opted for a wrecker trany rather than a rebuilt or new 1 Still I'll probably sell it soon.

It had/has around 220K on it, but I've got a feeling I've been driving it around with the metal shards in it since I bought it bout 3 years ago cause of the sound it made. Still I probably drive it harder than I should haha

Ahh i usually go pretty easy on my car but occasionally give her a thrashing, IF you have problems with your tranny again maybe you should try a 190 Tranny, im pretty sure it will be a direct bolt on, only problem i could probably think of would be the propeller drive shaft, IF it was a problem get one off a wrecked 260 no problem :P, might be an advantage to see how it fares out if you ever get the chance

Hmmm well I'm not sure if would be game to try that cause of the 300's torquier engine, but it is an idea! Still all it needs to do is last me another 6 months and I'll be happy

Im sure Any Tranny would last another 6 months, that is if its not abused.

At My work had an 06 Ford Focus come in only done 13,000k's and the tranny was ****ed had to get a whole new one, we reckon the guy had to be doing ****loads of burnouts n stuff, but we couldn't find any proof on the Computer Memory so either the Guy left the battery disconnected for agessssss and waited to the comp reset or the tranny was just faulty......but i doubt that....13,000k's come on...

Thats an awful lot for a tranny. I'm sure you can pick up a used one from a dismantler for a reasonable price. They're usually still in the car and they don't pull it until someone wants it so you can take a look at the odometer and see the mileage. If its already pulled they're pretty good about documenting the engine/trans' mileage before they store it.
