Why do you stop so frequently for fuel?

120.6 miles/4.242 gallons = 28.43 miles/gallon !!!

It is great if it makes you happy to think you get such great mileage, but it really is hard to believe one of these cars gets 28+mpg. For one thing, slight differences in the refill amount after only a short trip could significantly over or under estimate the mileage. The amount of refill or prefill is always inaccurate, but with repeated full to empty to full tanks, the average should paint a pretty accurate picture of the true mpg.

Driving up to northern california on the I-5N I saw 24.9mpg once in my 300TE!

But usually around town+freeway I average ~16/17. Last time I filled up I did 70/30# freeway/city and got 18.3mpg

Im aware of this and I never use any calculations unless they are from a full tank to a refill.

I filled the tank, hit the trip, started the car, hopped on the freeway, made a couple stops, and filled it back at the exact same station when I got home. In fact, if anything my mileage was a little better because a friend of mine was retarded and decided to top off my tank, spilling a little gas at the same time. So Im sure my tank had more gas in it when we got back than when we left.

Might have just been an amazing temperature for driving of something that night because 24 hours later i only got about 70 miles on my first 1/4 tank instead of the 95 I saw that night.

If they are due a change, then yes. Don't replace them to get an extra 1mpg if they are not bad. Your replacement costs will far outweigh mpg gains.

pump up your tires, dont exceed the max on the side of the tire.
take out all the crap in your car you dont need.

those are free. and give you better milage.

I use Premium 91 octane plus octane boost and get about 15-20 in the city and about 10-24 on the freeway 1995 E220 Cab........

My E36 Cab gets about 17-20 city and 20-25 freeway.

Anyone here try the medium octane rating? here it's 89 I believe (premium is 92). I am considering giving it a try because it is like 20 cents per gallon less.

Any other tips for better gas milage?

I coasted down a long hill with my motor off and then I kept going by drafting behind a big truck until he got mad about how close I was following. I realized I got incredible mileage when I refilled my car after the trip down the big hill and then drafting that truck. It was like 50+mpg!!! I don't need a hybrid or a diesel!!!

Talking

The 400E is a real gem by Mercedes, even the EPA mileage estimate is better than the 320. The v-8 is a 4.2L , 32 valve, high compression, and variable valve timing. Capable of 149 mph with brakes almost as large as the 500E

1994 e320, 1990 jaguar xj6 sov
i get about 23-24mpg, i just had a valve job done 2000 miles ago on my 94 e320, i use 91 octane, i have a 90 jaguar with a 4.0L inline six and i get about 27-28 mpg at 176k miles , thats mainly city, its weird that on the jag forum many people say the same, some even got better than that, the advertised mpg for a new one is 18-21
the spark plugs made big difference for many people
hint: when u fill up gas in the morning when its cold u actually get more gas in a gallon, as when it gets warm in mid day the liquid will expand and u would get less gasoline molecules in a gallon compared to when its cold
that should help a bit

Theres no way thats gonna make any difference. Especially if youre topping off to check your mileage.

Seeing as thats the only way to check your actual MPG anyways.

By your logic, if I fill up in the morning and park it, my tank is gonna explode by noon? I think not.

It would be cool tho

Saving ~$300 (depending on how much you drive) a year is not worth the extra damage to the internals of the engine due to cheaper fuel! You will end up paying more in the long run.

If the car specifies 91, use 91 and none less.

theres no evidence that using regular damages the engine internals.
