95 E320 fan rubbing
New member and thanks for the web site!
Radiator fan blades are rubbing against a/c compressor pulley. Could this be a motor mount, tensioner, or some other pulley gone bad?

Off the top of my head it sounds like worn fan carrier bearings. The fan is not attached to the water pump as it is on many cars, it has its own bearing. If that bearing were worn I suppose the fan would be tilted closer to the AC compressor. You could remove the belt and see if the fan/pulley bearing is worn (it would have a lot of free play) or the bearing mounting bolts are loose.

I forgot about the fan clutch. That part is much more likely to be the culprit. There is some info here about that job, as there was another guy who did it. Sounds a bit tricky so don't get in a hurry with it.

Replaced the fan bearing/bracket,fan clutch, idler pulley and belt. That took care of the problem. Fun job! Wish I had that "special tool" that holds the fan pulley when you're trying to put 33 lbs. on the clutch assembly bolt.
