Newbie and Lowering a 300TE?

Figured I'd throw the "newbie" part in there so that more people will look at this thread and maybe help out instead of just swooping down and picking at my carcass.

Anyway, my name is Mike and I just bought a '88 300TE, my fourth Mercedes ('70 280S, '85 Euro 16v, and '99 W210). I'd like to set it down in the weeds, and I can see that there are a few like-minded people on this board.

My question is (and I HAVE searched, just haven't found a definitive answer): How low will the factory SLS system allow the rear to go with the existing springs? I know that there are a couple of application-specific spring sets available for the wagons, but can I buy a sedan spring set and just use the front lowering springs while adjusting the rear SLS? My only reasoning is the pricing really, as the sedan spring sets can often be $100 cheaper than the wagon sets from what I've seen.

Something else that just popped into my head. Do the wagon spring sets eliminate the SLS? I'd rather not do that at this point, as it works perfectly on the car right now.

Thanks!

EDIT: I think I found my own answers and will be purchasing a wagon spring set and adjusting the SLS rod as necessary. I forgot that my 16v was lowered the same way. haha

However, I'm still open to any advice. Thanks again.

Any pics of said wagon
Same year as mine

Even more importantly -- we need before and after pics!

Haha, well here's a pic directly from the Craigslist posting:

Hopefully I'll have "after" pics soon! I just ordered Bilstein Sport front shocks and will likely be getting a set of Intrax springs this week, so with any luck I'll be in business soon.

Planning to keep stock rims/wheels or getting some aftermarket?

Definitely aftermarket, although I haven't made a final decision on which ones yet. Seems as though all of the ones I like are discontinued (Junction Produce 17x9 and 17x10 deep lipped monoblocks for example). The choice to the suspension now was pretty much based on the fact that the factory front shocks are blown and it almost feels like the car gets airborne when I hit a decent sized bump in the road. Luckily it doesn't feel that way on the highway or else I wouldn't be driving it at all in the meantime. haha

Awesome. I gotta see some afterpics. I would like to do this to my 300TE in the future once/if I resolve this misfire. My front seems to be raised higher than the rear a little more than I would like at stock.

Well, my Bilsteins showed up but my Intrax springs are backordered from Summit Racing. BTW, they seem to be a lot cheaper than other places. Paid $287 shipped for the wagon springs, and sedan springs are $220 plus shipping.

Oh, and these are in the mail too:

Thanks! They're a Carlsson replica I believe, 18x8 ET35, under $500 shipped on ebay.

They don't have any listed on eBay right now, but the seller is "powerwheelspro".

UPS says I should have the wheels on my doorstep on Tuesday. Can't wait!
