thinking of doing w124 engine swap

thinking of doing w124 engine swap on a 89 300ce. i am leaning towards a 190e 16v drivetrain. Possibly a c36, m119 or even tossing around a greaser motor. any input??

well if you go with the voters right this second, (Me being the only one ) you would swap with an m119 ... but thats sorta dreaming on my part, I would say the most feasible one to actually attempt would be the C36 swap...

for the M119 you will need the whole front clip of a 400E420 or a 500E500. Not cost effective at ALL. I am looking at doing an LS1 swap....just starting the preliminary info gathering....

I saw an older ('72 ish) 280E (I think it was) at the Ga Tech Auto Show this past april with a Chevy 350 in it, and the whole thing just made me cringe... I appreciate the power of Chevy's motors, (most hilariously awesome car ive seen yet was a Miada LS1), and Ive seen a very tastefully done LS1 '69 (ish) Camaro, but i just think those motors plus Benz bodies equal ugly... it just didnt look right.

I'm an OEM type of dude... and i see the engine as the soul of the car.. if it was up to me, itll be between the m119 or the C36. but like what mark have already stated. the M119 would be too much money and work. so if staying OEM i would say C36. But if all that doesnt matter I say get a 2jz-gte (for mods) or the regular 2jz-ge.. they are rather cheap and easy to mod and you get somewhat of an OEM look because its also an inline 6.. also for the money its hard to beat a LS1 aswell.. but you might run into heating issues like the e420e/e500e owners run into (tight engine bay)..

Thank you for pointing out the fact that I must be an institutionalized imbecile. At which point did I suggest anyone was crazy for doing an LS1 swap? I must have missed that. I merely stated my opinion that the LS1 look and sound do not match older Benz's, but thank you for putting me in my place, oh master of the only correct opinion.

thats pretty BA... from what i remember of Japanese, originally the reporter states that it is "a pretty car, a weird car"... then they go on to talk about the fact that the tranny is a combination of the Toyota one and the Benz one, and then the reporter is a darn good driver, and then they ask the owner with the bandaid neck if he is worried and thats all i picked up, sorry... or rather, gomen

I had a LS1 in my old 240, and it was killer.

My current side project is a 91 3 series with a LS2 from a gto...we're gonna see how it goes LOL

There are a number of resources and write ups available on the M119 swap. it's really not that bad of a swap, and it is one sweeeet motor.

Well if you didn't make silly comments about the engine looking "ugly" when one RARELY sees the engine anyway, I wouldn't HAVE to point out your stupidity.

PS, the inline six is far from a pretty looking engine.

I happen to think the m104 and m119 with a little jet hot on the manifolds and some powder coat on the vavle cover look like damn good engines. Much cleaner and more organized looking that a LS1, not to mention the internal quality differences. ATL_S124 has a valid point, I doubt if you do an engine swap your hood will stay closed all the time, people that do stuff like that usually love to show it off.

The C36 motor is a stroked version of the m104 2.8L (Yes, not the 3.2) so should be a direct bolt in. If its not enough, slam some turbos on there...

I cant understand why ANYONE would want to swap an m119 into a 300. I suppose your have the most justification of anyone ive seen post this same subject, considering Ive never seen and m119 coupe, but for everyone else, I dont understand why people wouldnt just upgrade to a 420E for half the cost.

A friend of mine was planning a c36 swap into his 420E. Youll get more power, and better fuel economy. And to top it off, it would be an easier swap.

Good call!
We've actually had this convo before, either on here or on Beyond, I was talking about doing either a c36 swap or a 2jz swap. You called me crazy though,

I spent the last 30 mins trying to find the thread.

A c36 swap is your easiest choice but good luck finding a good c36 engine with low k's.

I would look into a twinturbo setup, besides with the c36 would probably give you a small burt of bhp, i'm guessng around 50, which you will just feel.

If you want full power out of a 124, I would go with a twinturbo kit. Talk to a few guys on the forums , some have done it.
