1993 Mercedes Benz 300 CE
Virgin Benz owner needs help

Hey everyone, Im Matt and while I was deployed with the army overseas I bought a 93 300ce! I've wanted one since I was 13. Well I now have her.

I did all the research and the wiring harnes, head gasket and radiator have all been replaced (it is a 3.2).

The problem is that the idle jumps only when its in park? Also the engine feels like it is going to die out when I first start it. It stalls sometimes. What should I look at first? are there any signs?

I hope to make alot of friends on here and get into the culture! Thanks Matt.

lots of cars
It's either the EHA or the fuel distributor itself.

maybe try going out to clubs, bars, even church gatherings. basically get out there and meet people, and hopefully one thing will lead to another... and booze always helps too... good luck!

Hey Matt, congratulations on your first W124 purchase. The erratic idle seems to be a common symptom of the OVP (over voltage protection) relay, its located behind your battery and has a fuse mounted in the top of it. Try to wiggle it and see if it changes your idle. The fact that you mentioned that the car sometimes stalls when you first start it points me in the direction that YNVDIZW124 is leaning in. Your EHA valve may need to be enriched, its located on the back of the fuel distributor via two screws and a 2 pin connector. If you take it off be sure to remember that the gas lines are still pressurized therefore keep your face away as you loosen and pull it out unless you like gas squirting in your eyes . Once out you will see a small inset flathead screw, remove this carefully and underneath it lay a 2.5mm allen head adjustment screw. Turning clockwise enriches, only move this screw in VERY small increments always taking note of the original position so you can bring it back to where you started. Did this to my 300E M103 to rid of the crappy high RPM high load acceleration, the engine had no power under high acceleration and would sightly skip or buck, now it pulls up to the shift point I also got rid of my cold start stall issue in which I had to give it gas when starting it so it wouldn't stall, now it starts up almost instantly with no throttle whatsoever.

A '93 has the 3.2 M104 with EFI, not CIS-E therefore there is no EHA.
Does the idle jump in Neutral as well as Park?

Is the CEL (check engine light) on? Have you read the diagnostic codes?

Check for vacuum leaks first. It wouldn't hurt to check the plugs and air filter. You might also try cleaning the MAFS (mass airflow sensor) with some CRC MAFS cleaner.

Hey Matt,

Congradulations on the purchase. Hopefully it is what you have been wanting. They are great cars. To add to what others have been saying check the motor mounts aswell. Not that they are the cause but they can make things feel 200 times worse than they really are.

Also Thanks for your service. What branch and where?

Check for codes.

I would also suspect the ETA (electronic throttle actuator). It suffers the same wiring problem as the engine wiring harness.
