Down to two wheels - help me decide

OK, thanks to the hlep of the forum members here I have concluded that these two wheels will work. The first is off a 2004 C230 Kompressor - 17" staggered - 7.5" ET36 front, 8.5" ET30 rear and the second is off a 2005 SLK 350 - 17" staggered - 7.5" ET36 front, 8.5" ET30 rear. I have a 91 300E with stock suspension (not lowered) and plan to keep it stock. I use this car as regular driver and sometimes have me, the wife and our two kids in it (one kid weighs around 125lb and the other around 140 lbs) and they sit int he back seat. Seldom will I ever have luggage since this isn't the car we will be taking on trips but it is an option. Based on what folks have told me here, eitehr of these wheels will work. BTW, I currently am running 16" 2004 C230 wheels (non staggered) on it with no issues.

So which wheel do you think would look the best? I am leaning towards the C230 wheel but wonder what others think. I realize that ultimately it is my car and I have to be happy but I like them both, have seen the 10 spokes on a W124 and it looked okay but haven't seen the C230 wheel on one and wonder if it is too modern a wheel (being 5 spoke) to look right.

So what do you think?

First ones for W124...thin spokes don't look that good on W124's IMO

Agreed 100%. However, my advice is to not waste your money on 17" rims if you don't plan to lower your car. For whatever reason, low profile tires/larger wheels exaggerate the gap between the fender and tire. It looks pretty bad IMO.

lots of cars
I would say neither, but if i had to choose i would get the SLK wheels and powder coat them black. The funnel wheels don't look right on our cars.

I say thin spokes look good, but you'll never find these wheels.

i too do not think thin spokes look good on a w124.

(rivcal, hope it was okay to borrow your pics!)

one of the best looking OEM wheels on a W124 i think

Well I bought the Kompressor wheels, brought them home and put them on. I promptly took them off since I didn't like them. A $475 mistake. Maybe I can sell them and recover some of my $$

If they have tires, just throw them on craigslist. Im sure you can get your money back.

I sold 2 spare rear wheels and 1 spare front (the same style that I have on my car) for $350 on craigslist about a month ago. I could have easily gotten $450 for all 4 and thats without any tires. I think on the w203, the style you have looks a lot better.

does anyone else find it weird that he gave us his kids weight in the first post in this thread? Didn't know that was necessary for choosing wheels

It's not. It's about rubbing/scraping with 18's.

No smarta$$ - i gave the weighs because i was still concerned with rubbing issues in the rear and knew 250 lbs of weight in the rear could be a factor

I kinda told you soo...... I had those wheels and didn't like the offsets... the SLK wheels would have been much much better looking on your car.

Very, true! mercedes like to camber a lot when there's people in the back seat.

Whatever you end up getting the w124s in my opinion look better with a rim with a little beef to them considering the style of the car is a bit imposing and stands out because of its defined lines and apparent bulk. Putting a pair of thin spokes on it would be like putting ballet shoes on Shaquile O'Neil. But just my opinion.

lots of cars
It all depends on the stance and look of the car. The lines on the w124 can be change with spoilers and ground effects. It all depends if you're going for a sporty or more elegant look. I have other wheels that look like monoblocks that i can put on. I now learned to love the thin spoke wheels i have because they aren't straight spokes, they curb at the ends.

I took off my wheels for a different look and feel to my car...

i can go back to this for a smooth look..

Hi sorry for replying to such an old post but I just recently got into the W124 platform (picked up a 1993 400E for relatively cheap because of its condition) and I love the way your wheels look on your car. I hope you still own this beast. I have a set of these wheels sitting in my garage and was hoping to replicate your look. If you don't mind me asking, what are you running suspension wise to make these wheels sit so nicely on your car? Which springs, shims, struts and such? Thank you so much for uploading this picture because it pretty much sealed the deal on wanting to put the wheels on, and thank you for any insight you can provide!
