rear differential swap

rear differential swap
I have a 1992 400e with the US 2.24 rear gears. I would like to swap out the differential for lower (higher number ratio) gears. The car has ABS but not ASR. I would prefer LSD, but I can live with an open rear. Is there a differential that will swap right in with 2.65 or 2.82 gears, and if so, where should I look for it (in what vehicle). I'm in the US, so I'd like some solution without importing parts from Europe. I appreciate any info provided.

You're gonna take a knock in highway fuel economy.
As for; I believe the 94/ 95 E320s had the 2.65 and of course the mighty 500E/ E500 had the 2.82. My 94 spins noticeably lower than my 90 at 80mph.

I am not concerned with fuel economy. It is my understanding that the differential and the ring gear diameter is completely different on the V8 cars, so what the six cylinders come with won't help. I also don't want to have to try to hunt down a diff from a 500e. I was hoping something out of a 129 or another car would work. Thanks.

1994 E420
i have a 94 e420 swapped with a 2.82 diff from the s420/500 (same year).
It is the best mod I have done to this car. Fuel economy went down a little (from 22-20 combined)
but the acceleration and the power...wow...wow
If you want more info check this out
