1994 E320 Weather stripping KRYTOX 205 or 105??

Has anyone used Krytox to preserve and protect the weather stripping around doors and windows? I bought the thicker GPL205 and now think I should have ordered the thinner 105 for this application.

Car is as new w124 with 11,000 miles and I am trying to do everything right.

any thoughts?? Thanks

Why??

Your car is at the minimum thirteen years old and has survived prior to your ownership.
I've had mine for twenty one years and really don't pay attention other then an occasional wipe when I wash the car.
I've got a coupe and the weather seal is as new with no leaks..

I helped a friend find a great well maintained e320 out west and I noticed the seals are dry and beginning to crack. Also wind noise is creeping in the usually very quiet interior. My car only shows the very slightest cracking from age and like all rubber parts need to be maintained or replaced in time. The Krytox from all my research seems to be a very good lubricant and protector for seals and numerous other applications hinges etc. I am uncertain which form the 105 oil or the 205 grease is better for door seals. I love the care and want to maintain everything perfectly.

How much are these weather strips anyways? I want to replaced all the ones on the doors.

It seems they vary from $100 to $200 per door. The Febi brand makes some for Mercedes. I thought about doing this for my other 124 that has over 100,000 miles but after finding out that the seals have to be glued in place I was concerned about doing it perfectly. It may be worth finding out from a dealership what they charge to replace the weather strip or at least what they say about the procedure.

That's pretty darn pricey for each door.

I have once seen the price as low as $55 for either the front or back doors, but it has been a while since I looked. You should investigate further.

Krytox is good for this, but don't put it anywhere that contacts glass. Sticks to glass!

Fluid is best.
