What would you guys say?

Because to put my low power on my TE in perspective, a 2001 honda civic 4 cylinder beat me
I felt ashamed.

If it was a five speed you didn't stand a chance off the line. 35 to 75 you have a better chance. Remember your car weighs 4000 lbs and the civic weighs a smidgen over 2600lbs. Word of advice don't try to run on a civic unless you are rolling at 35 or up and drop the hammer before they do....or get a 420.

These cars really are not quick, but they are fast as GED mentioned. Our 60-80 is pretty aight.

I raced a late 90s Civic hatch and it burned me off the line, but I caught up and passed it

These cars are definitely not meant for drag racing. If you want to do that, best get a V8 engined Merc

No, if it's a rolling start you can beat it after 30-45mph. I know no one can beat me on the 6th street exit of the 710 freeway in long beach. Just hit the kick down switch and then massage the pedal and you should get up there. I've noticed our cars don't really like WOT, Plus you have a TE it's heavy.

Interesting. Off the line I have noticed it doesn't like WOT, but other than that, never noticed it anywhere else.

95 e320...sold the rest
It's all about where you start from. I've taken out countless cars from a rolling 20mph (kickdown into 2nd) and from 60mph.

Not many things can take me out on the highway unless they're a v8. lol

Your car is 21 years old.

By 2020 that civic's body will be under the crusher in the junk yard

So be proud of your car.

That's what I love about my 300E RT3.6, to occasionally embarrass newer sports cars. It will be worse for them in the wagon, lol. There are so many fast cars now, however, that I may need to add a turbo...

BTW, before I got into w124's I loved my '89 Civic Si. It was a great sports econobox

I am very proud of my car I wouldn't have spent so much time and money attempting to fix the misfire...probably would have just dumped the car.
Love the 124's across the board.

Can't wait to get my new injectors in and burn rubber

You werent trying hard enough....

I beat my friends 2006 (i think) Honda Civic w/manual.

With the laughing gas on, I can pummel an RSX-S.....

You need to powerbrake to load up the torque converter, and you will have a better launch.

1990 300e 0-60 is 8.7 and 16.8 quarter

2005 rsx-s 0-60 6.4 and 14.9 quarter

2006 Honda Civic Si 6.3 0-60 and 14.9 quarter

Translation......Your friends don't know how to drive stick. In most cases all things considered the civic SI and the RSX-s will win in all categories of performance. A stock civic with a fart can can be beat after the launch. Bottom line is you never know what someone has until the crack it open. I once saw a kid with a 98 Saturn sl2 running a wicked innercooled turbo and when the wheels grabbed he could stay with a Supra. You wouldn't have know the car was anything unless you paid attention to the suspension job and the black innercooler.

When you go to run your car on someone make sure of two things.

1. no cops

2. you don't care if you are made to look stupid.

Dude, it's a hwy car...coax them onto the freeway.

You're doing the shifting correctly, right? Start off in 2 (really 1st), run the R's up and shift into 3 (really 2), then slam it immediately back down into 2 (which is now really 2) and hold your R's all the way up and shift back into 3 (which is now really 3). But unless you're turbo, you're going to get beat off the line by many rice burners.

Read up up on the cars they used in the F&F movies. The rice burners were digitized to look like they were running over 100mph, but in truth, they wouldn't hold up on the set at that speed. However, in the second movie, the stuntmen were fighting over who got to drive the Challenger and all filming that looked like over 100mph with that car, were really with that car (watch the old movie, "Vanishing Point"). Technology being what it is, go figure.

C'mon, Civics and other Hondas have been known to perform well out of the box ( I'm talking about stock, DOHC VTEC ones, not even the wimpy SOHC ones ). They are alot lighter than w124s and in some cases, more powerful. These little Hondas have proven themselves time and time again that they can run and outrun the big guys. They make good tinker toys. I know this because a Honda is my weekend toy.

Our W124 cars were manufactured with a completely different perspective however. They have almost everything the Honda doesn't have, and vice versa.

So don't feel bad about it. It's not like you have an AMG car anyways.

I seriously cannot believe you are quoting FnF as a performance gauge of Japanese cars LOL

Uhhh....they had access to some really tricked out cars from SoCal. I was just stating the back story from the perspective of the stuntmen drivers on F&F. If you doubt the facts, look them up yourself.

I raced my friend in my 190e 3.0 5speed. He was driving a 1998 civic ex 5speed. he's got a few small power mods.

He smoked me off the line because I was just smoking the tires...

20mph roll was pretty even until I hit third gear at 50mph, then I was gone.

I need a quart of oil every 1000-1500 miles.

I get a little smoke at WOT. So yeah, there is something still in there.

Anyone want to race?

no, it's not that im doubting the facts you have read. the cars from the FnF series of movies used were mostly show cars, with heavy sound systems and ugly heavy bodykits and whatnot... and turbo kits and nitrous that were bolted just for the sake of having them! lol

I'll give you the the fact that Hollywood is notorious for getting their facts wrong, from weapons to cars.

And let me reiterate...taking a production Honda or Toy and pouring money into its innards to make a street racing machine is not an original concept, it's called hotrodding and been going on for over 50+yrs.

While you might pour thousands to trick out a four cylinder, I would pour thousands to trick out a modern made (better metallurgy) 4 bolt main 426 hemi and drop it into a Challenger, Roadrunner or GTX of old. Since basically we're talking about '***** tingle factor' anyway, for my money when I turn the key over in the hemi, I feel like I really have something of substance. Racing from light to light is one thing, the 1/4 is another. Different strokes for different folks. It's all good in whatever form it takes; the need for speed .

I rather build a 4.6 mod motor but it's too expensive and i don't want a race car either. The w124 is a fwy car and not a race car. If you want to go fast get something else for that. You can build a 2jz-gte and make more hp than the hemi but that's it's still a lot of $$$. Someone just drop a 2jz-gte and a 5 speed on a w124 and go to town...
