Can I reuse transmission pan gasket?
Can I re-use the one that is on there, or MUST it be replaced? (of course assuming its not leaking)
Autohaus states it needs it....but I am double checking.
Just curious. Its about time for my 300TE and the 260E must be desperate based on the lack of history of any sort of maintenance...

Are you doing a fluid change or what?
If you are, you will need to do the filter too. Most places that sell the filter sell it in a kit for $35-$40 with the gasket included. When I changed my fluid, my old gasket was pretty obviously distorted compared to the new one.
It's not expensive at all. But to answer your question, I think you already know you don't NEEED to.

Thoroughly clean it and make sure it isnt cracked or dry anywhere. I have reused a tranny gasket before on a 124, but only because the old one was still usable and also the car was being picked up that night and there wasnt any parts stores were open. That was a good 8 or 9 months ago... no calls from the customer

I will just wait it out then. I am just feeling a little unhappy leaving this any longer after seeing the horrible condition that the coolant was in...
But yes this is a fluid change, I already have a filter ready to go...I just can't find the spare gasket I bought a while back.

Seriously, if the gasket isn't distorted, cracked and/or looks stellar, you could use it. But I wouldn't let time constraints rule the decision. I learned working on race cars back in the day, to never reuse gaskets of any sort. Most gaskets are easy to make if you match the material. They just use machines to punch out from a template-most any gasket can be made in less than 20 minutes. Leave head gaskets and specialty gasket to the pros though!

The thing that sucks is, of course....a car that has not been treated anywhere near as nice as the wagon has(mechanically and physically), runs nicer than my wagon!

Hey ps2cho, I am looking to change out my transmission oil and filter and was wondering if you could help me out on what exactly I should be ordering from autohausaz.com. I am so lost as there are so many gaskets and what not.
Also, could you give me any insight on draining the torque converter as well as any other tips on doing the actual fluid/filter change since you just did this?
Thanks in advance for any help!
-Brian

Haven't done it yet on 260E, but I did it when I first got my wagon 4 years ago.
You need transmission filter + gasket. There is only one. Each are called Transmission Filter and Transmission gasket
Its a messy job, but pretty easy.

I checked and you are right though, autohaus doesn't seem to show a pan gasket for your year although it does for mine.
check the part # by using EPC-Net http://epc.startekinfo.com/epc/home.jsp (Register if you have not, its free for 2 years IIRC) then once you have the official MB part #, type it into autohaus to really see if they carry it or not. They didn't show my rotor bracket for my 260E, but after getting the correct part #, it showed up.

Just in case anyone needs it, the part is A126 271 11 80 and is available from autohaus
https://www.autohausaz.com/search/pr...ber=1262711080
Thanks ps2cho for the link, I signed up and searched out the part number and it looks like this will work. For some reason they only offer it as a kit for my model year but that part number looks like it will work.
