Autozone has pretty good pads..i've been using the cheap ones and to my surprise there isn't that much brake dust and no noise. You don't need super expensive pads for daily driving.

autohausaz is great, Gabe at gkeuroparts.com is also very good. Autozone pads should be fine, it's not a sports car .

Thank you for the suggestions. The mechanic I went to also insisted that I'm supposed to replace the rotors when the brake pads are replaced. Is this true?

Only if they are worn down below minimum thickness. A good shop should be able to turn the rotors to make them look and perform like new again.

Oh, and find a different mechanic.

I've heard that turning MB rotors is a poor idea. I'd err on the side of caution and get new rotors. Even with my new rotors braking performance leaves much to be desired and I dont think re-machining old ones will help any.

You can only change the pads twice before needing new rotors. They are cheap enough anyways so just do it.

Actually, I had another mechanic look at it, and the brake/rotor combination on my car is actually good. 80% on the front, and 100% on the rear. There is another problem entirely...

LoL Wulf, no--it was at a regular mechanic. That mechanic is good; it's just one of his assistant mechanics was trying to get me to buy rotors, but I firmly said NO.
