Not actual mileage

so i bought a 1990 300e with supposedly 134k on it. drove it for about 3 weeks and had to spend $500 dollars on repairs in the engine. so i got very curious and checked carfax. turn out, the actual mileage is 249k. What can i do? can i sue the guy i bought i from?

if it was a dealer then you do have some recourse

If it was a private sale, you have diddly squat

In the Title's statement of facts, the mileage must be listed and then there's a box to say if it is accurate or not. Which did the seller check?

also depends what state he's in... some states list the mileage as 'EXEMPT' if it's over 15 years old or so... makes it easier for people to do this type of stuff!

I believe (in California) that if it is over 100k it doesn't have to be listed. Also true if the car is over "x" years old.

Who says he rigged it? Are you sure he is the one who owned the vehicle when it was changed out? Sure he didn't buy it with that speedo in the car already then realise it was a pile and decide to offload it to the nearest chump who would buy it?

If it's over 100k they don't have to declare milage. If you had done your due diligence you wouldn't be in this pickle.
