What Wheel/Tire upgrade for W124?

My buddy is considering the following on 93 400E, but is worried about rubbing or fender issues. Any1 running:

16X7.5 et37 225/40/16

or

17X7.5 et35 225/45/17

Any thoughts or comments. Thanks.

I currently run 17x7.5 ET 35 W/215's and have a slammed 300E....intrax springs with #2 pads all around....no rubbing worth noting. I am however going to 225 on 18x8 ET35 and need a bit of effort to make it work...haven't done it yet but I will make it work...I think 225 40 17 on 17x7.5 et35 should be just fine on mine....and your friends suspension cannot be any lower than mine...

Hope that helps

The 400E might have an widened track over the 300E. If that is the case the wider tires might touch the fender as they are not flared like the 500E. I am not sure though.

Straight out of AMG rims fitment catalog

W124 E-class (non-500E)

7.5x17 offset 42 (225/45)Monoblock Styling II and CL 2-piece style rim
8.5x17 offset 30 (235/45)2-piece Styling I Composite rim

Of course, they are probably a dozen more set-ups just in the 17" size. I like to see a post with what other people have found to work out.

FWIW, 400Es do not have a widen track but do have wider rims.

Great info Jim but I am assuming these stats are for factory height cars, not lowered ones so it may be different...Am I correct?

Well...my catalog is/was for 95'German market cars and included are complete AMG suspension lowering packages so I'd imagine the rims listed fit w/o fender rolling/widening...but how low we talking about though?

As we know...so many size combos, just in the AMG line alone. Right on...
