I have a similar problem with my sunroof, but in my case the wire has broken inside the roof.. The roof was also tilted up, but I got it down to shut position by simply pressing it down by hand from outside the car. Very carefully, and each side evenly as it started to come down. I finally got it shut.
But how to get access to the wire to change it I would really love to know also.. As it is now it won't move anywhere with the wire loose inside the roof..

Yeah definately avoid taking it to a shop. Unless you're willing to pay a bill thats probably going to be over $500.
The shop my car always goes to won't even try to fix my sunroof for me. They say its too hard and expensive, and the guy specializes in older European cars which means its probably pretty hard if even he won't do it.
Mine still goes up/down, but sadly wont go forwards or backwards. I really wish it still worked, i love sunroofs and can't stand the fact it doesn't work.
Goodluck with the repair, hopefully you can manage it on your own and avoid the LARGE bill from any shops.

Just what I was looking for! Mine got stuck in the up position last night and I definitely did not want to go 165 miles to the dealer. Thanks!!
