500E - The Hunt Continues...Opinions Please
So I'm hawking this one now, green w/ black interior, its a 92 but dressed as a 94. Not really my flavor, I like original but something about the car, the way it looks and the asking price is kinda suspect...but w/ that said...
I've spoken to the owner a bunch, he's sent me tons of pictures which I'm posting and picture of the title. I've ran the the VIN through carfax and it didn't look that great. http://www.carfax.com/organizer/generateReport.cfx The owner sent me pictures of the title as well, I don't know if that is of any help though.
Owner also said the car has closer to 200k, and that the transmission is slipping and needs work. I do have a 3rd party mechanic available to take a look at it tomorrow if you guys think it is worth even the $150 he is asking to drive and diagnose it.
I'm also looking at a TE 4matic wagon, this one is local, 1992 w/ 158k on the clock, owner is asking $1,800. I've yet to car fax it, any thoughts? He says he drove it up here from Georgia and that it is a southern car. Reliable and so forth. I honestly don't know too much about these cars. Is that a good price if what he is telling me is true? I'll likely be able to see/drive this one soon which is good. The 500 E is in Miami.
Thanks guys!

ive seen that one also if it is just the trans , i think it is worth it. you can get a transmission swaped in and you'll be fine but you'll have to make shure theres no other major problems.
if it has small problems you can fix it in time, car has a lot of good stuf: 94 upgread face and trunk, exhaust, rims , so it is really wrth it. and also try to bargain with him to get it maybe somewere around 3k youll save the money for transpot. if you need somebody i can give you this guys nomber , that brought mine from texas to ill for $500,
but i would rather get the 500e versus the 300 TE because its gona wrth more in time. good luck

The engine in a 92 wagon is a 104, but not the 3.2
For a load handling beast in the driveway, $1400 is cheap, as long as you view it as moderately disposable. The added weight of the 4matic system makes the car a dog...imo..EXCEPT during real winter conditions. But for a year round daily driver, I'd rather not have that weight.

Question - is that roof rack ready to go or do you need to add something to it to slap some snowboards up there? I see yours is newer, or it looks newer than 92 -- does mine have the ability to flip down that third row and turn it back into the floor of the trunk like yours?
You live here, or close enough to me to know how the weather has been -- why don't you have a 4matic? How is yours in the snow?
Thanks
Geosss - yea, its got a salvage or rebuild title, its just weird -- its got a bad odometer and he thinks the car has more like 200k on the clock, I just don't understand why he would sell it so cheap. The carfax said don't pay more than 2,200 for it haha. Yea right. Idk, it looks great, but you get what you pay for, I just would hate to get hosed.
Raffi - I'm not sure honestly --45-55 hundred maybe? It doesn't need to be in great cosmetic condition - but I want something thats pretty mechanically sound or atleast has some documented history. Maybe that's too much to ask but somehow I don't think so...
