I kind of like it, it's not too common and seems like a nice alternative for having a merc ornament on the top of the car for people to steal.
Thanks for the info!

Looks better than I was thinking from your first picture.

There was a German company that sold a sheet metal SEC grille surround that accepted the OEM SEC grille.
The sheetmetal had to be welded to the 124 hood and filled, finished and painted.
The addition of the SEC look grille covers the fog lights of the 124.

I believe CKS in the UK distributes the Goeckel DE kits.
Goeckel makes both the SEC and SL look surrounds for the 124.
Problem is that the surrounds are fiberglass and no matter how good you bind and fill, eventually you will get cracknig where the dissimilar materials are joined.
Probably easier to get an old SL or SEC hood and cut the surround off, weld and fill to a 124 hood.

That looks awful.
If i were in my 300e, and a W124 with that grill pulled up next to me..I would be beyond embarrassed. Ofcourse after i laughed about how bad it looked for 10 minutes.

I know everyone has their own opinions on that kind of stuff, but i honestly just don't see the point in doing something like that. I don't mind most aesthetic upgrades, but when they start to severely alter the true looks of the car I don't believe they should be used.
If you don't like the way a stock W124 looks, don't buy one. Thats my opinion.
That grille is something i would expect to see on a 1980s honda civic, not an old classy mercedes.

:D
Yeah i see it now, the car starts to look cheap, just like the 93-95 hood, grille, and headlights.
i will stick with the older style grille. (still waiting on a insert for that). meanwhile my car is in the shop working out a fuel pump issue.

In my opinion the best looking grille is either the one zorro has, or the stock one painted black.

well, as a few people stated here, it is called the SEC look...
It was quite common in the German tuning community... but I reckon a W124 does not deserves a look like this.

Delicious looking coupe, opinions may vary, but your coupe is a hot, unique combo of color, kit, wheels, stance etc. It is one of the cars that causes me to double take often, even though it is your same sig pic.
