'93 300E Starting Troubles
I have a '93 300E that is having problems starting. The battery seems good and the starter cranks but the engine won't turnover. It will sometimes take 4-5 tries to get it to start and yet sometimes it starts right up first try. When driving, the car runs smooth and accelerates with no problems. I initially thought it was clogged injectors and put fuel cleaner in but there is no difference. With good acceleration, figured fuel injectors was not a problem. Now I suspect that it might be the fuel pump. Looking for any suggestions or help trouble shooting the problem.

Hmm..
Was the battery dead at anytime?
i was told by a mechanic that if the battery goes flat then the car wont start unless you unlock and lock the car several times.
you may also want to check your OVP relay behind the battery (covered by plastic). first check the fuse(s) ontop and if that doesnt fix it. you can buy a new one from Autohauz or if you are cheap, go to a JY and find one!
good luck.

OVP, definitely (I think......)
Had the same problem, crank and crank and then it'd start and run like a, well, like a Mercedes-Benz! Little 10amp blade-type fuse (not the ceramic but the newer type).
You are saying "it won't turn over" and I assume that you mean "it won't start, but the starter is engaging and actually "cranking" the engine, but that it just won't "fire up". Othewise, if it is REALLY not turning the engine crankshaft and making the little thingeys go up and down up and down......then you got a BIGGER problem than the OVP!

I have a 300ce 1991 coupe. The engine has started not to run even and time to time just cuts out and wont start, but i can return to the car after 3 hours and it starts normal till the next time, ive changed distributor cap, arm, plugs, leads, ovp and still the same.I have noticed that the new dizzy cap was quickliy burnt after not even 1000km what can it be? The car has also been to 3 mechanics.

black merc 300CE starting problem
it will start fine when engine is cold but when engine is hot engine it wont start it just crank and after 15-20 min it starts again. the solution to this is to replace your crank position sensor you can do this your self 30min its a DIY job. parts is around $35-106 for OEM. good luck.

Look into checking your throttle actuator. I am having the same problem as you are and thats what I figured out it was. Its a bit pricey so be prepared if that ends up being your problem; keep us updated.

Same problem: 5 mechanics!!!
I replaced the crank shaft sensor then the problem started again. I have the exact same situation with the car not starting here and there but runs perfect otherwise. 1993 300ce. I'm going crazy after 5 mechanics (2 MB dealers included) no one seems to have the answer. Did you ever fix yours?
