Parts compatibility with a 380

Hi all,

Sorry I don't have the time to search the forums right now, so please don't flame me.

A guy on gumtree is wrecking a 380, I mainly just want the mags to replace the stock plate mags I currently have, but the car comes complete.

2 questions, would the rims fit? And if I was so inclined, would the v8 fit?

I would be happy with the mags anyway, but I would love to replace my 260 if major modifications were not required. Would it even be worth it with such a small v8? The w124 never came to Australia with a v8.

Not much info, but here is the link:

Thanks in advance, damo.

wheel fitment guide

There is a sticky about three lines above this thread that has a wheel fitment guid - you need to check the offset, but I think most of the SL's had a lot less offset.

find out what you are looking at

I am guessing it would be a W126 (many parts will fit), but you need to find out what the guy is selling. As far as the wheels go, I still think they have too little offset, so you might need some spacers. You can get newer wheels for far less than 500 bucks, and you would end up with a hulk laying around your yard for your trouble.

I think taking a motor would also involve the computer and wiring harness (probably tranny too), and might be a lot of work and jury rigging if you are not a good mechanic. I don't know if the driveshaft would be the correct length, and you need to balance it if you cut or lengthen it. Probably not an easy job, and I would just look for a V8 powered car in good shape if you want one.

Yep, I think I will need spacers, they are 17s, but doubt it will get much more info without seeing the car. How can I check the offset anyway?

Just found out that it is her ex boyfriend's car, been sitting around for 5 years. Sounds a bit f-ed up, but apparently he spent $5k on the motor before he left it to rot. She has no time or inclination to wreck it, so I may be able to recoup some cash selling the motor, or dump it in another 380.

It's worth a Sunday afternoon drive anyway.

Thanks guys.

ok. So I have seen the rims and I like them. The tyres on them are 235/45/17, which need replacing anyway, so I could go lower profile if I had to.

I have read the wheel fitment guide, and it says this tyre size should fit on a standard w124. I assuem I just need spacers 15 to 20 mm. Can anyone confirm if this is correct?

Already have someone interested in the trans and my existing mags, so the cost to me will only be tyres and transporting it. So for me it will be a pretty cheap set of mags at the end of the day, just a lot of mucking around...

So will they fit do you think?

Thanks.

Fit like a glove, I'll post pix up in the sticky wheel thread once I polish them up. Cheers all.
