LSX in W124 chassis

LSX in W124 chassis

I've been looking at doing a LSX swap into either a W124 or bmw 5 series, seen plenty of 5 series with the swap, but not any W124s. Anyone done this swap, have links to threads with this swap done etc? Also if/when I start this project I plan on running a monstor LS motor with something north of 600 hp with a 4L60e gm auto trans, can the W124 handle this?

I can't see why the car couldn't handle that kind of power with a proper swap....tho you might want/need wider tires and bigger brakes and a spare set of flex discs in the trunk !

Question is will the GM tranny handle all that ? What sort of torque converter you planning on ?

I have not heard of anyone doing that kind of swap here or on any other W124 forum. I did know of a guy down South that put in a Ford motor into a W201 190 race car a long time ago. pretty ghetto/basic install...looked rather ugly with the hood up but it ran and sounded fine.

no but they are very similar. the 190 is smaller than the w124 so my assumption would be that it would be harder to get one in there than in the w124.

Yeah, ive read that thread. Guess no one makes bolt in mounts for these, I know that a guy makes em for BMW E39s

It's true that a W201 and W124 share many, MANY parts...but chassis and engine bays are quite different enough. MB 'engineered' the V8s into the W124 s with a literal hammering of metal. No reason why someone can't hammer in an LS.

Perhaps your friend who made mounts for the BMW can make mounts applicable for this MB project. What a scary fast car it'll be with that sort of motor and power.

The problem with the OP's desire for 600HP is that the rear suspension won't be able to put the power to the ground.
Even at 400BHP +/- big tires that don't fit in the stock wheel wells are needed...

AMG stuffed a 6.0 M117 into a W201 many years ago.......
