Difficult start when warm M111
Hi
Having a problem on the e220. After driving the car up to operating temp and turning the car off and leaving for 10-15 mins, the car must be cranked for about 5-6 secs before it fires up again?? Initial start in morning when cold is good no dramas starts within 1-2 secs of key turn. When warm, the car does start eventually (never fails to) but takes a longer period of time to fire up after a run. Starts great after cooled down again though??
any ideas to the cause of this problem?
cheers all

Wow this baby has seen alot-an SKD Vietnam vehicle----I looked at the ignition system for your 111.960(HFM-SFI) and my guess without putting any diagnostics on the car is that your crank position sensor needs to be changed---enjoy!!

ok so i got underneath to have a look at this CAS
i presume this is the little sucker?
i could reach it from underneath and took a pic with the iphone. just not sure whether id have enough room to take it out without removing the starter bolts??
i noticed also that the aftermarket sensors are a little different to this original sensor, in that the connector sits vertically as opposed to my sensor's horizontal connector position?
tnx

does this look out of the regular guys?
loose connection?
ps: i had a fiddle around and this is a worn round piece of rubber which spins freely. presumably has peeled off the wiring due to old age and heat ^^

When it comes to engine sensors try not to use any repeat any "used" sensors---they create more problems!!
In any event the correct sensor part number for your engine is 002 153 43 28---make sure that your Austrailian supplier confirms that the part is equal to that sensor--

Wiring harness do give issues. Crank sensors very seldom. For your issue. Check fuel pressure after you switch off. Make sure it has holding pressure and that it does not fall back to zero bar. Good luck

You only need to test the pressure at the test point on the injector rail. Connect gauge. Run the car. Switch off car and check if a holding pressure is maintained.

oh ok. just one thing russell. i spoke to a friend who works at MB and they said they have a feeling it might be throttle body related. he didnt diagnose the vehicle just when i mentioned chassis, year, and symptoms he said that. could it be the case?

Throttle bodies and wiring looms do give trouble yes. Also airmass sensors. But according to your description I would check fuel holding pressure first simple easy test and costs u nothing. You also say it starts perfect when cold. Runs and idles fine? A throttle body would cause very low idling and would be especially problematic when with cold start. Fuel pressure is your first test. If that's OK. We will continue further.

yes thats correct rus. starts in 1-2 turns when cold. love it. more turns needed when hot or after 15-20 mins of resting. if started within about 5-10 mins of vehicle resting it will start within 2-3 turns. strange really ?

I am still waiting for this post to get going again .This is just like my 2.6 m103 .Easy to start ,but when hot , it will not start right away. Fuel pressure regulator has a smell of fuel in the pipe. Accumulator changer ,fuel filter changed ovp relay changed .As was the fuel injection relay.

w124 The car runs great .Only jobs keep on popping up from time to time. And to be expected for the age of it. Even picked up an ezl , thinking it to might have been the culprit. And it was not. With the price of these ezls, it wont eat anything in my garage. Time to buy an EZL now if you dont have a spare .I bet ,you have seen the price of them .
