1993 300E 2.8 ECU Problem

Hello,

I am replacing the wiring harness in my 2.8 and my mechanic just melted my ECU. I was wondering if anyone can help me with the compatibility of my ECU with others, since it's quite a rare car. Chassis is: WEA1240281B989414. It's a 1993 300E 2.8 with Cruise Control, 4 speed auto and no ASR. US Spec car. I think part number might be A018 545 65 32 but I am not sure since the car is not close to me right now. Also, it's a VDO ECU. Could a Bosch one with same part number work?

In EPC there is also a ASR Control Unit but since my car has not ASR I should not be worried about that right?

Really would appreciate any answers, dont have 1000 bucks to spend on a new one!

As your car engine been changed 300E are 3 litre as mine is a 260E = 2.6 litr. Not sure about the engine size the number you gave on your post is for a E220 - 2.2 ltr = 0261203502 0261203502 A 0185456432 but untill i know the engine
type, to search its a no go at the moment .Whats the engin type ,like 260e is M103 and also they fit a M104 is yours the M104?

Hey there, I am in Portugal and I got one from the UK. Far from Texas lol. After I replaced it it was all same symptoms, in the end was a crappy 10 dollar ignition coil plug that was making my car misfiring! Spent 1500 before that!

My car was misfiring like crazy when hot. With ignition in position 1 and if I touched harness I could hear click's everywhere like injectors spraying and throttle body opening and closing. Replaced it and I though i melted my ECU in the diagnosic process. Well, I was wrong

Do you have a 92-96 gas powered merc? If so, those were affected with biodegradable wiring harness. Those can be a pain. Another thing you can do is a very simple test. Get you fuel rail out, crank it and check if fuel pattern is ok. Swap injectors and do it again. If everything seems good, you can assume fuel system is all good. Then, again, do the same thing in ignition part. Swap ignition coils and see what you get. Also, if #2 is down, take plugs metal cover and start the car. At idle, completly remove #2 cable. You are assuming #2 is the culprit, but this is a way to be sure. Is #2 a plug only or a coil one? as I mentioned, replace those coil plugs:

All my stuff was testes and all was ok. I even testes coils in a cold and hot situation, and outside the car performed fine. I found the culprit just by swapping parts until I got it finally. I did all the major's before: ECU, engine harness, ETA, new injectors, MAF, CPS, coil pack, plugs, plug cables.. as I mentioned, I replaced almost everthing and such a small thing was making my car run like crap.
