w124 e220 manual gear box issue - help needed
Hello friends ,
My friend had engaged the reverse gear by forcing it in without engaging clutch , since then it was fixed by a lame mechanic & now for the second time when i tried engaging the reverse gear the car gears doesnt engage but when brought into neutral the car moves only the reverse...when other gears are tried & when clutch is released the car seems to loose power...my new mech had opened the gear box & has figured out the problem
i have uploaded the pictures & it would be very helpful if someone could guide me with technical name of the part or the part number , & where i could source it from. Thank you.

MBWorld Fanatic!
Clutch release bearing is my guess.
Google search is your friend too...
MB has an online EPC ,which isn't free anymore, but it will show any model, US or Euro (yours is I guess by that motor size) in exploded view with every part numbered.

Mine is C124 5-speed manual, and I believe all clutch configurations are the same. Maybe you are looking for Item 11 of the diagram below?
http://www.mbpartsworld.com/showAsse...modelYear=1989
However, why not order the entire clutch kit which will include the clutch bearing. You would not want to do it again when the clutch plate fails.
While your mechanic is at it, please also take the opportunity to fix the gear selector mechanism especially the bushings which can fail any time at this age. If so look here.

These parts may soon be difficult to find so get them when they are available. I last ordered mine from Pelican Parts.

Hi ohollenbeck ,you are just awesome. thank you so much for responding with so much information. I am so glad to know the part name & the part number from you. Yes it is the part no 26. The part number i posted was the part number i saw on the back of the interlock cage. As you have rightly mentioned mercedes dubai told me the exact part number what you have mentioned (A1232600573) I was not able to find the part from my local mercedes dealer here in india. so i have placed the order with dubai , hopefully i should get the product within 20 days or so & i hope my car will be back on the road soon. By the way what is this mercedes epc , how can i sign up for this ?

This is a web based application that may be country specific for use and availability. Here in the USA it was free for many years, but in 2016 they started charging $75usd for a 1 year subscription.
With a valid VIN number, you can look up all the parts for almost any Mercedes. Even without a VIN, it's still possible to look up part numbers by picking a model #.
the link to it here in the USA is this link
