Can I fit in 400e/e420?
Hello,
I am seriously looking to buy 400e or e420. I just saw amazing one owner black on black e420 (94') that I want to travel and get but my only concern is can I fit in it.
The reason I am not sure is because I set in my friends 97' e420 and I couldn't fit my legs, there is something under the wheel that my shins keep hitting. I moved the seat all the way back and it still wasn't enough, I could not believe it. I was able to fit in s600 bc the seat goes further back but it had that same thing under the wheel. I am 6-6 so I was wondering if there is anybody else this tall who has that car or knows someone else...I really don't want to go 800 miles to find out I cant fit in a car ...
Thx.

560SEC's are something you should look at as an option, older tech, but better styling and fit for tall folks.

I bought the car the day before your post.I took the chance and traveled 1k miles for another e420 95' ... I have plenty of room in this one. Car is very nice, looks amazing, drives amazing and had only 54,900 miles when i got it (now 55,900)...
I did look at 560sec too and I really like the look...But maybe another time...Now lets see how this one serves me...

S430 99K, , E320 Wagon 130K, E420 249K(Sold), 240D (Sold)
Just saw your post, and I would have said yes, as I have a friend about your size who fit both fronts in my 94 E420. He much preferred my 1980 123/240D and said the E420 felt like getting in & out of a "Clown Car", although OK once inside.
I recently sold both cars & upgraded to a W211 wagon which he fits OK, but says the Dynamic seats are to narrow for his back & wouldn't want a long ride in one, so that is something to consider if you look to upgrade in future.
All my "big guy" friends fit the S class cars I have had(W116, W126, W220) just fine. The "S" back seat has more room than the E class cars. Don

Thx, I agree about S class. I tried S class (600) and it was awesome just too much of a car for just me...Especially since work is only 7 miles away from my house, s class would be overkill. This e420 kinda is too, but I don't drive it all the time, since its pretty much like brand new. I don't like looks of post 99' mercedeses so pre 99 is where I will stay for sure.
I have enough space in it and its just amazing how it drives. Soo smooth, I am blown away (especially coming from sportier cars)...
Only thing I noticed is that is slower than what I expected from a V8. I know its heavy too but I did expect a little more punch....Maybe I will change my mind once I go WOT...For now I just cant do it to the car haha

well, at 6'6" i can add my 2c worth. when i was looking i found underdash covers in the 96&97 e-series hitting right on my shins. very cramped and uncomfortable and very most likely unsafe in emergency situations.
i eventually found a low mileage 95 e420, 124 e-series, and it fit me fine; and with the seat low and all the way back, i can actually stretch my left leg straight out.

Ended up buying low mileage 95' E420 too, and can easily fit now!
