Just Bought a W124 300ce

Hello everyone,

I just bought a 1989 300ce. I don't know much about this car and want to learn. I understand that this car's a :
Chassis #124.050 and Engine #103.983

The first thing I did so far is change the oil and filter. I am running Liqui Moly 10w40 MoS2 for oil and MANN oil filter. Is this alright or do you recommmend something else?

Thank You In Advance.

That is fine.

I use 10W-40 in winter months and 20W-50 in summer

Is it ok to run the 10w40 all year long? Where I live, during the winter months the temperature reaches -13F or -25C and in the summer 95F or 35C.

Yeah i'm pretty sure it's fine. The dealer that I bought my car from (I take it there for oil changes too), believes that 20W-50 will give the engine extra protection in summer. The way I drive :-D, I'm sure the engine would appreciate it hehe..

If I had the guts to, I would go for 15W-50 Full Synthetic. However, I don't want to take the risk with oil leaks...

Good luck!

Any pictures of the CE?

10W - 40 ; I think it means that it behaves like a 10W single weight oil when it's cold and 40 single weight oil when it's hot.

same with the others.

20W-50 is thicker and I guess with the engine running warmer in summer it helps protect the motor a little more?

15W-50 is Mobil1's Fully Synthetic oil - I would if I had a new motor in my car but not with 91k mi.

btw, Nice CE!

I don't know if it's only me but the older 124's seem to sit higher than the newer ones. A set of clear corners all around, lowering spring and shocks, and wheels would make the car really sweet already I think. I like the all silver treatment!

Good luck!

I'd say invest on those first..

Thanks for the compliments guys. The car sits high, because of the new Bilstein Heavy Duty shocks that were installed.

Here is a list of repairs performed on my car by the previous owner. I was very lucky to be able to obtain these. These records go as far back as 100,000 km. Basically, since the warranty ended. The following records are from the Authorized Mercedes Benz Dealer that sold the car and did all the service since new. All prices are for parts and labour combined in Canadian Dollars. I copied them directly form the actual printout. I have not been able to get the records during the warranty period as of yet. There are also more records that are more recent that I am also working on. I know that the waterpump has been changed, new Bilstein shocks etc. (Still In Progress) This car was stored for the last 4 years or so, driven only a couple of thousand miles.
