w124 cabriolet buzzer don't go off

Hi every one,

I have a 1994 cabriolet w124 and this buzzer sound is very notorious I could say some times especially when you open the doors.

Now the other day I was doing some cleaning to the gauge cluster set and the car was on and nothing in the gauge cluster area. The sound was killing every time I restart the car. So I thought of unplugging the switch which feed the buzzer with current.

So I tried to remove the two switches which are on the right side of the back of the gauge cluster where the buzzer and some other relay is.

It worked and both sockets were off, buzzer was off and I had a feeling that those two sockets have more then something to do then the buzzer.

My hunch was right and after all the cleaning job done put the sockets back, put the cluster gauge back now :

1. the buzzer doesn’t go off 5 seconds after the car starts. it keeps continuously working.

2. Doors open close …. buzzer is on.

3. Buzzer starts when the key is in ignition mode (contact on).

4. Noticed something else …. seat belt warning light is continuously on.

5. Previously it used to light with the buzzer 5 seconds and off.

6. If I put the seat belt on buzzer is off, but the seat belt light doesn’t go off.

7. I tried to reset the computer and check for fault messages…. nothing…clear.

8. I kept the battery terminal off the vehicle for 24 hours hopefully it will do some resetting but it was pointless.

9. In case someone asked I did put the two sockets back again in order cause you cant put them wrongly.

If anyone has any clues plz guys don’t spare it on the buzzer sound is killing and I can’t be buckled up 247 while I’m in the car. ☹

Your problem is you most likely fried your warning module N2/4. Shorted something when you were playing behind the cluster.
Betcha, you didn't disconnect your battery when you played tinker toys with the electronics behind there.

That module could be fixable if you're handy with soldering.

Hi my friend, sorry I haven't seen your post earlier. from your experience did you ever face such a case before I mean someone played with the sockets while the car is on and friend those parts ....just a question and also what are the components damaged inside the module N2/4 could be .

Yes, dealt with these on several occasions.
The DS courtesy puddle light, underside of the front door. Check to see if it is functioning.
If not or if it has been tinkered with in past, the wiring (+ve connection) may have grounded thus causing a short in the system that links to the N2/4.
I've seen this happen a few times, where the owners replace a bulb and accidentally short out the n2/4.
There is also a possibility that the courtesy light wiring in the door may be compromised due to repeated open close repetition and aging wires, so you need to check for continuity in that section of wiring from the courtesy light assembly to the door trigger in the door jamb.

As for the n2/4 module/relay, you need to open it up (easy to do) and inspect the all the components and the CB too. I suspect a trace on the CB has been fried, Easily repairable.
If not, then obtain a known good one, to test and see if this resolves the issue.

Thank you so much for the details that you have enriched me with. But I have some more questions which I need answers from your experience plz:

1. For the buzzer could it be cold soldering or has to be bad components.

2. If bad components do you know which ones kindly.

3. The buzzer comes along with another relay next to it or module what’s that for kindly.

4. If I disconnect the buzzer what will happen.

5. Why in my car after the buzzer issue the seatbelt light remains constantly on.

6. Even if engage the seatbelt the sound will go off but the light remains on constantly.

7. The buzzer or the relay next to it to what circuits they are connected more where if their absent they might effect.

thanks a billion for the detialed reply, I will check and get back to you. But I had one small question plz....the relay which is next to the buzzer you've mentioned that it's for light ....what lights interiors ...exteriors....dash ....

Do you know how to read these drawings?
A1e8 Instrument illumination 26A
26A refers to the blocks 26 and A on the diagram reference on the sides and the top edge.
A1e8 is the relay. (right next to the n2/4 module/relay)

Also attached here is a more closer look at the relay you are asking about.
Note: the ID on the pins in the schematic ===> 58d 58D


follow the lines (wiring) and note the colors and where they go to.

see to be honest with I dont know how to read such a schematics but no harm to try ...I will check and see ....I'm.asking about for a reason which is when I disconnected the buzzer I disconnected both the relay and the buzzer .....thought it might have some relashion to.my present problem.
my first aim is the buzzer.....also I.might need your help in something else but let me sort out one thing at a time.
