Gear selector vibration/rattle
Hi Guys,
I'm the new owner of a '98 E430 with about 63K miles.

I'm very happy so far but am getting a rattle through the gearshift lever. It only happens upon application of power at low revs and low speeds. For example, if I'm idling down the driveway, then accellerate, it rattles the lever momentarily. It doesn't feel like it is actually in the drivetrain, just in the selector box. When I move the lever from "D" to "4", the problem goes away also.

Any ideas? I've had the cover off of the center console but didn't see any obvious culprits.....

This may be way off without actually hearing the noise but it could be one of your catalytic convertors rattleing.

LOL!
I have the same problem but mine will stop when I tap the gear selector back a little. I hope somone does give you a solution because I need it also.

mine has the same problem that just came up but it seems like it only does it in reverse need help also

Can't see from the diagram, but I just had my gear lever bushing replaced 3 days ago. It's a cheap and quick job, and it's removed that metallic 'click' that happens when you shift to D.
