Question Woodgrain Steering Wheel???

Ok So Im Not Impressed With The Steering Wheel On The E Class Does Anyone Know Where I Can Get A Direct Replacement For And 00-01 E430? I Know It Can Come As An Option But All The Cars I See Dont Have It.. You Would Think It Would Be Standard Just Like On The Jaguars But Anyways Back To The Point Does Anyone Know Where To Get One Either From M-benz Dealership Or Aftermarket... I Have Seen Some Aftermarket But You Loose The Chrome Emblem On The Wheel Which I Think Adds A Nice Touch Anyways Enough Rambling Any Suggestions Are Appreciteded Thanks In Advance

You can find aftermarket SW from eBay, or contact Steve at Steve@MBenzNL.com for AMG, or Brabus.... SW.

E 63S Wagon Renntech, E55 Renntech, SL65, SL 55 030, ML, bunch of old ones--they come, they go...
They are easily available...

in a good Benz store parts department. Or, I did get mine from Steve MBenzNL (a Brabus one) and got excellent service and a great deal. No worries about losing your chrome star in your bag; that bag transfers to your new wheel. Hope this helps.

You need to find someone who...

knows what they're doing. These are available in the Benz accessory catalog with a Benz part number. The 210 uses the same numbers as the 208. Shouldn't be difficult. Lots of Big City Benz dealers even have some of these in stock. If not, email Steve. I'll bet he's got one, doncha Steve?

Let us know where you eventually get the steering wheel from. I checked with Steve a few months back and he did not have any in stock. I was looking for a burlwood/charcoal one for my 01 E430.

Sorry, I guess Steve meant no charcoal/burlwood ones were available.

No apologies needed I just found the pic on one of his albums (which shall remain undisclosed ) and that wheel may still not be available.....on there, I'd only seen a charcoal/black birdseye and a full leather charcoal one anyway, so you/steve was correct according to the site I'd checked.

If you don't mind waiting for it, I've heard good things about the ones they have at www.formymercedes.com. I'm close to ordering one from him; seems really nice, quick to respond to e-mails and lowest price I've seen.

Take care and enjoy the wood-grain ride,
Greg

I personally like the wood/leather combo in the ergonomic style. Mercedeshop.com lists it as an S-Class steering wheel only. The E55 W210 has the ergonomic style but only in leather.

I have seen a similar one from
http://www.mp-des********/index_mercedes.htm which is sold by performanceproducts.com for $950+ which I think is a bit expensive for me.

Java is not an easy color to find steering wheels in (outside the US)...that is a rare interior color (outside the US)...

I only have left for the updated 210s:
- MB charcoal/black birdseye maple
- MB oyster.burlwood (shown by whitey - thanks)
- AMG black/black
- AMG black/silver
- AMG black/red
- Brabus charcoal/black birdseye
- Brabus ash/black birdseye
- Brabus ash/burlwood

greetingz,

My wife dislikes the wood/leather wheels. I dislike the crappy leather on the original wheel. The color has begun to fade and vanish.
I too, have been looking for alternatives but have come up short.
What wheel do you currently have? All leather w/ multifunction buttons?
I wish I could find a perforated leather java sport wheel w/ MF controls that didn't feel like the waxy plastic-leather on my factory wheel.

Min'e's like that...

It's a Brabus wheel with perforated leather in MB finish. Looks fantastic. But very expensive if you get it from Brabus USA, or get it's twin from I bleive, MP designs. But some of the best money I have spent on the car...

Contact Jerry Jones at info@myroadster.net. The website is http://www.formymercedes.com. He has the non perforated wheel (pic 1) for $479 shipped or the perforated leather (pic 2) one for $560 shipped.

I'm looking for multifunction, ergo, (possibly perforated) without the wood. I'd also like to find a leather airbag/horn pad to replace the stock plastic POS that just reeks of cheap.

You should buy the E55 one then since its all leather perforated and ergo.

NOW we're getting somewhere, BUT...
1- Is it a direct swap for my factory wheel as far as fitting without changing the steering column or any other parts
2- Does it have the same airbag (multi-stage or whatever)?
3- Are the multifuntion controls the same?
4- Is it available in Java? (Probably a very silly question)
5- What year(s) will have this wheel as an option?
6- Here's the big one.... What is a part #?
7- How much should I expect to pay for this wheel?
8- Is it difficult (as in do i need any special tools) to replace?
9- Is there a DIY guide for swapping out the steering wheel somewhere?
10- What am I missing?

It is a direct fit for the 00+ W210's. I do not know whether it's available in java, I am sure there is an E55 out there that has the java interior. There is a post on this site on the DIY steps, seems pretty easy. See pic below of how the E55 wheel looks. BTW the pic is from Steve's site.
http://groups.msn.com/MBenzNL/europa...o&PhotoID=2013

I am not sure about the part number, call a dealer and ask for the part# and price. I haven't seen a NON OEM steering wheel in ergo and perf leather.

I like the look of the wood/leather wheel. I too have the Java interior problem. My question is...for you guys in FL or SoCal or AZ, are these too hot to the touch when left in the sun for a while? My 210 is in FL and yes, I use a sunshade most of the time but on occasion when not covered you can't touch the metal/wood interior parts! How about sun damage to the wood?
