Rattle when I give it the gas......

Rattle when I give it the gas......
and then let off I hear a rattle under the car. Sounds like a long wire is rattling on the exhaust? Any ideas? I'll get her into the shop next week.

Catalytic converter maybe?

Peek under there and make sure you didn't run over something and have it hanging down there.

Go to the dealership and have the cats replaced under warrenty, 80K miles, 8 Years. I just had mine replaced on my SLK and they were replaced a couple of years ago on my E-Class. The material inside comes apart and starts to rattle around like rocks in a tin can.

I was also having this problem and after several hours of trying to find the noise - found it was a broken weld on the spacer which separates the two pipes. Located after the first two resonators(?), but nefore the first big shared cat.
Have pics if there's an interest. That noise drove me crazy, I was *this* close to giving in and going to the stealership. I finally took a pipe and separated the two exhaust pipes - otherwise the weld looked normal.

The weld looked good on it's face; it wasn't until I put some pressure on the pipes that I saw the weld was seperated from the exhuast pipe itself.
My neighbor put another weld on and bam, gone.
It only happened in gear....because the exhaust pipes also share a transmission mount, which is under stress while in gear.
I would think bad cats could also be heard at idle, in park.
