Trunk Lid Won't Open. Help please
I was working on my 1998 e320 and I took the plastic cover off inside the trunk lid. Took a little break so I closed the trunk. Now it won't open anymore. Help please. I tried manual, the electronic key botton opener, tried the botton inside the car. Nothing works. All I did was took the plastic cover inside the bottom trunk lid.

To avoid playing 20 questions, it would help if you provided more details
such as what methods have you tried to open the trunk? Did you try the
mechanical key? cabin switch? Smartkey...etc etc....

Sorry, I forgot to post what I did. Yes, I tried mechanical key, cabin switch, smart key and none of them works. What I did was took the plastic cover inside around the bottom of the trunk opening and after I closed the trunk it won't open anymore.

The most reliable of the three is the mechanical release so if that's inop,
you can zero your focus on the cable leading to the trunk latch. Verify
that it did not get jammed or disconnected. Dont think you can access
via the pax compartment; prob fuel tank or metal plate there.
I'm intrigued that the trunk lock access is inoperative. I can see where
the electrics can be snafu-ed, but I'm left scratching my head wondering
what you jogged loose to inhibit the mechanical system.

Thanks for all the replies. I will keep you folks posted once I get this problem fixed. I will have a locksmith to look at it.(maybe a cheaper way than to go to the dealer) BTW, the cabin trunk release botton is lit. I tried pushing the trunk botton and at the same time forcing it to open but no luck.

...oh, so the linkage is jammed in the open position, ergo it can open any
more. so something else is keeping it closed. any room to get leverage
and put upward pressure to see if it can be persuaded to come up....
while someone else turns the mechanical key. no....dont use a crowbar. ;-)

I knew it. It is open!!!
Then, try closing it. This is pushing down to close it and then open it.
I had the same problem. The latch was open but not fully. I "re-close" it from a close position of the trunk and then, voilá, it opened.
Hope it works. I know it is frustrating.
The locksmith, a good one, could be a right move.

I hate to admit it but it was so STUPID of me. I was driving home and I thought of something maybe the mechanical key will turn to the left. I thought the key only turns to the right. So, I got home took the mechanical key inserted turned to the left (counter clockwise) and guess what? Trunk opens. Almost spend $130 minimum for locksmith. I just really thought the key only turns to the right. I've just learn something new ... well for me it's new

Trunk will not open
Trunk will not open. The inside trunk release switch has a red light that stays on. The fob won't open it nor does the mechanical key open it. Its hard to haul kids and groceries at the same time. Please help.
