Dude, where are my speakers?
I can spot the 2 in the front doors, the 2 in the rear doors and the 2 on the deck lid behind the rear seats.
That makes 6. Where are the other 2???

4 front door + 2 rear door + 2 back deck = 8
There are no speakers in the sail panel if you have Bose. The dash speakers are for the (optional) integrated phone.
I knew that I had two by the feet (ankles) but I could not find the other two!!! Rear doors and rear deck was clear to me - you can see 'em.
However, I am not getting any sound from the ones opposite the side-view mirrors (in what's called the A-Pillar) and the owners manual is silent on speaker location.
I'm under warranty and so off to the dealer I will go.
Thanks guys.

That is the speaker location for the tweeters with the non-Bose system. Bose puts the midrange and tweeter (2 speakers) in each front door for better sound imaging.
I had misunderstood at first. Thanks.
Tweeters would be nice there though. Any idea if it's doable w/ the Bose system?

Can someone just please go out to their 2002 E-Klasse w/ the Bose, crank up the CD player and put his/her ear to the sail panel to listen for sound.
I get no sound. Anyone else w/me?????
The sail panel looks like a sail. It's a triangle. When you're sitting in your car and look to the left to look out the side view mirror you look right in the direction of the sail panel. It's the section of panel inside your car, opposite the side mirror. You have one on the right side too.

Is there a speaker right by the left foot hand brake?

there are no speakers in the triangular sails-located on the door(witnessed this myself, when the door panel was removed. This sail area is only utilized for stock stereo system. Thus, if you have speakers in this location you either have aftermarket additions or a stock stereo system(according to mb sa).
the dash mounted speakers are for the integrated phone system.
the 8 speakers are made up of the following:
4 in the front lower doors (ankle area). I believe he referred to these as 2 two-way speakers. The tweeter is integrated within the speaker. Pretty lame if you ask me.
2 in the rear doors
2 subwoofers in the rear deck.
Hope this helps. The SAs seemed pretty savy regarding their entertainment products. If you have any other questions regarding your particular car, they would probably be more than happy to provide you with info. When I asked them about adding more or different speakers, they suggested that i do a-lot of research regarding this as bose does not always accomodate other products. Such differing products have shorted out the entire system and even "fried" the fiber optics-accoding to the SAs I spoke with. Apparently, Bose is weaker than most systems from an amperage POV. This website does have a vast amount of info regarding these issues. From what I've seen, those who are truly unhappy with their system abandon the bose altogether. My older bose blew this one out of the water. I've considered doing this myself, but the expense is too high at this time. LOL

That makes 4 - are there others in the wagon?
I've seen the grills in the sail panels and on the front dash above the vents, but based on previous replies, I don't think these are used by the stereo system. I don't see any speaker grills in the back of the wagon or in the hatchback door and I don't hear any speakers in that area of the car.
The reason I ask is because I just installed an aftermarket radio from Crutchfield and it doesn't sound like I'm getting enough bass. I do get some bass from the two front door speakers, but not from the rear door speakers.
Just looking for some advice before I call Crutchfield tech support...

I don't see any speaker grills in the back and I looked in both compartments (the disc changer compartment on the passenger side, and the spare tire compartment on the driver side).
Sorry to veer off here but while we're on the topic, after installing a CD changer (had the well lining out) I noticed my 210 doesn't have the Bose amp. I have the Bose 8 speaker system. (code 810)Did I get hosed at the factory or was the Bose amp an option on the 2001 E430?
It really isn't pushing much bass though even when I have the stereo cranked. I get more bass out of the front door speakers than anywhere else. Furthermore, I get almost no bass out of the rear door speakers. I'm thinking of putting the factory stereo back in for comparison.
Thanks again!
Thanks!
