Intake Air Filter choice

I have seen quite a few people in the W210 forum using K&N Filter drop in replacement without issues but wondering if anybody has inputs on the Green Filter (commonly used in the AMG C55/E55 forum) and the ITG Foam Filter.

I have very good throttle response using the ITG Foam Filter (drop in stock replacement) on my M3 plus a slightly louder intake sound. The only downside is the the oil/gluey substance for filtering dripping down into the bottom of the intake box which requires occassional rotation. Mind you it's a vertical placement versus the more horizontal on the MB.

Thanks in advance.

What one are you more likely to over oil and get oil in your MAF. That would be my biggest concern. I have used a K&N now for years and have not had a problem even after cleaning and re-oiling it. I think the Green filters cost more too. I was not switch from a K&N to a Green filter myself but if you are starting form a paper filter, the K&N still might be a better value. I wonder if you could even tell the difference between them.

I currently use the K&N set-up and do not have any problems.

Sorry I do not have any feedback on the green filter.

Fju, assuming you have a E320 V6 in US, this is the one you need and it's the one I am using http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...x?Prod=33-2184 I can't confirmed what car you drive since one is TOTALED and the other one is RIP

The "2 required" one seems like it's for the European market. There's one for I-6 engine and there's also one for CDI.

I think the key to not damage or flood the MAF sensor is never overlube. Make sure to have the filter hang dry for 2 days before putting back into the filter box.

Even

better you can buy 4 years of filters, oem flow better then k/n for less then the price of one k/n filter.your engine will flow more cfm, longer, and your maf will stay around longer.oem filter ...........why pi*s money down a tube on a filtering system that is best left on a carb car.

thanks, ohlord; always very helpful. i need to change my misleading description...i can't put text on a different line with this profile, so it looks like one is totaled and one is RIP, but only the E430 is "totaled" AND "RIP" I have the US E320.

autohausaz.com rules. I love it. Might as well pick up a couple air filters AND a couple wiper blade inserts! Thanks!

So you recommend OEM? I'm not really a big believer in noticeable differences in HP with the K&N, I just heard it was a good, quality choice. But usually I go for OEM parts; again, this will be the first time I've changed it in this car.

get the stock paper style filter.

you will notice no gain with a K&N, and while they may flow better, they also don't filter as well.

Air filter

12 bucks, oil filter fleece kit 14 bucks, buy two sets and it's over 50 bucks and free shipping, how can you beat that.K/N has been proven in independent lab testing to flow more cfm out of the box for about the first few hours after that stock oem out flowed it hands down.Besides your heads can only flow so much and the oem filter will exceed what the engine requires all the way up to the electrically governed top speed, and as far as I know only tommy and a few of his buddies have ever exceeded that limit and gone 163mph

The FSS

cars from 98 up require synthetic oil 229.3 spec or 229.5 mb spec i.e
mobil 1 0w40 ,and fleece filter to allow the 10000mile or so oil change intervals. The kit includes the fleece filter and all the little rubber o rings that allow the filter to do it's job so efficiently.

oil change a definite diy item, diy and pics http://www.mercedesshop.com/Wikka/OilFilter2

oh ok OIL filter... my bad. I got confused because people were talking about lubricating the K&N filters and all that.

I don't do oil changes myself, but I do know the parts that my mechanic uses are quality; I have the receipt somewhere and have looked into it. When I own a house with my own garage I'll take a stab at doing that DIY!

Cold air intake setup

Like I pointed out,the heads and exhaust will only flow so many CFM already exceeded by the stock box which gets its cool air from outside the engine compartment. So unless you have ported and polished the stock heads, installed headers, modified the exhaust,or added a pressurized power adder, you are not going to force more air into that motor, then is already being introduced by the(clean) oem filter.

stop the whinning and go change your oil. you could have it done already if your weren't wasting time on this site. oil change is something you should try at least once on your car. and as far as the fleece oil filter goes. you can pick up the filter and take it to your tech and he won't have to bother getting one and you will know for sure what's in your car, instead of being in the dark and just saying "oh.....my tech uses good parts". unless he specializes in one make and model he could possibly not know what's available and what's not available for every make and model of car. his supplier might not even know. climb out from under the rock guy and get involved and stop skirting. and k&n filters suck donkeys dicks. anybody that says that they make a difference only thinks they do because he wants it too. he's convinced himself it does just so he can get some satisfaction from the extravagant unnecessary purchase he just maxed his visa with.

The Two (2) required refers to the W210 E55 AMG which requires two (2) air filters. It also uses Nine (9) quarts of oil and sixteen (16) spark plugs. Extra of everything.
