The only way I see is to use double sided tape for outdoor use. But there is not enough area on the piece for it to stick well. I think you would have to fill the inside of the antenna with some thing that would stick and harden inside, like JB weld. Fill till even with the outside edges with a smooth surface. Then you will have a big enough area for the tape to hold and, wala. You have the GPS antenna installed. My car came with GPS.

Either buy the CORRECT MB bracket or make one using the allen screw from the cover..and rivet the bracket to the roof....Very Simple!

I don't see any good way to mount that without using the factory hardware to do so. There is not enough surface area to use an adhesive. I'd take it back and get one of the fake ones if you need that on the roof.

Well i’m ashamed of all of you… acting like children insulting each other…

this forum is for FRIENDLY communication..!!

provide positive input or just keep it to yourself please…

if you don’t like what someone has or would like to do the THEIR car… you’re free to voice your opinion but come on…

stop and ask yourself, what’s wrong in your life that you have to insult another person for choices they make on their car..?? it’s not like he’s putting it on yours..!!

who cares why he wants to put it on his car..?? fake or otherwise… how in the heck would that hurt you..??

if you have an idea on how to help him with the question… great… if not, just keep the ugly comments to yourself… life’s ugly enough, you don’t have to add to it..

~ Mr. B ~

what’s that saying, “if you don’t have anything good to say then don’t say anything at all..

sounds like a good rule to me..!!

first... you should always clarify who you’re taking about and or addressing…

now relax, don’t let these people get to you… i’m on your side… it’s your car, do what you want… and from what i read above, so was mike430sport, MARK CUMMINS, and X55…

you posted a legitimate question… it’s best not to respond in your thread to those that reply just to flame or bash a person… ignore them or maybe even just “thank” them for their opinion and wait for the helpful replies and maybe these will go away…

i know it’s hard… especially when it’s like “monkey see monkey do” and several people reply along the same lines… but be patient… there are a lot of good people here as well..!!

oh yeah… your question: how to mount the dummy antenna..??

i think mike430sport had the best idea… fill it solid with something and use double-sided tape or epoxy it to the roof…

best of luck now…

I guess I can see two sides of this. I like to keep my car stock, but for some things, like a multi functional steering wheel, or turn signal lamps on the mirrors, I can see why someone would want them. Aside from the aesthetics, you get some additional functionality (especially with the indicator lamp on the mirrors, as it will increase your visibility while you're on the road). Anyway, are you going to gain any utility out of adding this to your car, or is purely for aesthetic reasons? regardless, if you're serious about simply affixing it to your your roof, make sure you put it in the right place so you don't become a laughingstock for passersby. you may want to find another mercedes that has the antenna stock and take some measurements so yours is in the right place. that way, no one will know the difference. best of luck. : )

I Did Something The Many People Will Not Not, But I Screwed It Into The Car And Made Sure That It Was Sealed Properly All Around. It Will Be On There Permanently So I Just Made Sure It Was Done Right The First Time.

E420, all those mods you mentioned are cosmetic, but they are still largely functional. However, me being the king of chrome additions that are purely cosmetic, I won't criticize your antenna.

Short of using screws or rivets, which make me cringe (that new hole will eventually rust), the construction adhesives are surprisingly strong these days. I think a two-part epoxy from Home Depot will hold that thing on short of blunt force impact. Look at it this way, all of our emblems are held on with glue, and they live through daily life and cash washings for decades.

EDIT: I meant car washings, but cash is also true.

dummy antenna

hi e420 benz,
I also have a dummy antenna a shark fin type it came with an adhesive tape on its back trim.
I still have not installed it ,I just put it on to see how it looks ,I think it looks great.
I am not sure if the tape will hold it for a long time especialy in car washes or at strong winds when driving fast.
please let me know if you find a good way to mount it.
thanks Yoram

The way I see it.. you only have two methods of securing this firmly to your roof.
1. Punch a hole though the metal roof like already mentioned and done.

2. Increase the bottom surface area my creating something that will fit up into the cover and have any increased mounting point. I am thinking... something like JB Weld. NOW I wouldn't stick it to the car... but you could fill the cover with botton ring attached with JB weld... smooth it out and let it dry. Once it dries... you essentially have a solid block with a larger mounting area. Now use the badge glue like someone else mentioned.

The filled JB Weld method just allows you to remove later if you want...

To each his own and good luck with your mods... it is your car... do what you will!

folding mirrors, updated tail lights, wheels - none of that is fake - they are all working parts to make the car function - you know that.

i guess you could put a fake satellite dish on your roof of your house too - but why?

I would not put a fake satellite dish on the roof of my house, but the gps antenna cover also "enhances" the look of the car. Why do people put rear wings on their cars or body kits when they never use them for their correct function? For the looks right? Same applies here with the gps antenna cover. WE LIKE THE WAY IT LOOKS!!!! ( galleryvw, see my avatar and put a sock in it!!)
