2001 E430 "Kleemannized"
Boy is it fun to have power when you need it!

It is not worth the admission price in itself but it sure was fun!

This morning I was at the stop light were I have been toyed with by a Mustang SVT in the past. He used to play around and leave me in the dust. Well today was the first day since I have been Kleemannized that I have seen him. Imagine his surprise when I toyed with him and left him. The look on his face at the next traffic light was priceless. He rolled his window down and said “damn, what did you do to your car?”. I simply replied “I decided to try a tank of Premium gas instead of Regular”. Off I left him again. It was great.

Taken without permission from MasterCard!
Cost of Mercedes E430 $$,$$$
Cost of Kleemann Suspension $,$$$
Cost of Kleemann Supercharger $$,$$$
Cost of AMG Monoblock AeroII 18” Wheels and Toyo T1-S’ $,$$$
Cost of Mustang SVT Owner saying what the f*$& just happened PRICELESS!

....Cost of saving starving children in 3rd world countries.........less than kleeman kits! I like your power when you 'need' it title....

Cool story, I'm sure your car is fast as hell, and the guy in the mustang was impressed. I wish I could beat guys in mustangs at stoplight races, i'd feel so manly! LOL

My wife and I are long term sponsors of a Bosnian widow and her four children. Therefore, in your opinion, am I worthy of blowing $$,$$$ on a Kleeman kit now??

AHAHAH! That's awesome..I don't know much about Kleeman superchargers, but how fast does it make your car run? It isn't everyday that you can beat a Cobra...just watch out cause most of them are not stock (like mine he he). My GT (not even close to a Cobra), with a $3000.00 Vortech Supercharger only can run 11s...though I don't have that supercharger

Just watch out for the new 2003 Cobras though...they are way underrated...390hp 390lbs/ft torque...from the manufacturer...but all the ones dynoed at more than 400hp...and run 12 seconds all day long...

It is pretty darn fast for a 4-door family car. Here is the dyno before and after at the rear wheels.

If given that you loose approx. 25% through an automatic transmission then it would be 426HP and 406 ft lb torque.

Anyway being able to sit at a traffic light and sip my coffee and blow away a stock SVT and not even come close to spilling my brew is only available in a Mercedes.

How is it on engine reliability though?

Because it becomes part of your engine, not just a bolt on, it shares oil, has its own coolant system but can draw from the overflow if needed, doesn't change the electronic engine sensors or monitors, and it is manufactured to at least Mercedes quality, I am very pleased with it so far. (what a bad sentence) I have decided to do at least one additional oil change in between the required services at the advice of two different Mercedes mechanics as well.

Brian, yes I think you qualify. I was pretty much joking with ya southerngent anyway, if they made a kleeman engine kit for my E300 most likely i'd be saving for it myself. Sounds like a sweet deal and a worthwhile upgrade. So many exhaust systems, airboxes, and chips are such minimal mods as far as performance gains are concerned that they're probably not even worth the added stress on the drivetrain.

Southerngent, are you not concerned with the hugely added amounts of torque damaging your transmission? Everyone that puts chips on tdi's at least has to replace their clutch from the added torque, and the chip doesn't NEARLY add as much power as your kleeman upgrade.

From all the research I did and talking with Kleemann Reps here and HQ in Colorado, word is that the Mercedes is so over-engineered that the rest of the car can handle the added power with no problems. Only time will tell. I will tell you that the different kits for each model are unique and I believe that they are all probably all under-powered. Something I read, can't remember where now, said that the PSI on the Kleemann's are very low and that the Intercooling is where they draw their power. Anyway we will see if I am back here crying in a year or still saying WOW!

best of luck!

By the way though, I dont know if you've ever worked in sales, but my guess is the kleeman ppl want to sell their products, and most likely won't agree to or bring up any side-effects/downfalls of their product. I'm not saying this will hurt your car at all, i hope it doesn't....it sure sounds like kleeman is top of the line in quality and knowledge, so I hope they're right!

SG,

Congrats - that's a massive gain in perf!
What year is your E430? Why does your dyno only show a peak hp rating of 223? Isn't that an E320 rating?

Lightbulb

let me clarify I mean why does your dyno only indicate a baseline pre-Kleeman 223 hp? that seems more like an E320...

That is because the pre Kleemann Dyno is at the rear wheels. All (almost) HP ratings by manufacturers are rated at the crank. Industry standards are that automatic transmissions usually equate to X1.25 or 223 X 1.25 = 278.75HP at the crank. That is about what an E430 is rated at. Also my E430 is a 2001 year model.

Thumbs up

Richard,

Thanks for your gentleman-like elaboration.
