Any regrets?

I have a '97 E420 with the original 16" wheels. I also have a '96 SL with 18" AMG monoblocks. While I like the amg's on the SL and like the way they look on E's, does anyone regret putting them on their E? My SL is staggered, if I do put them on my E should I stagger or go 18x8's? Whats the preference other than looks? Thanks

I recently changed out my OEM 16"s to staggered AMG 18"s and really like the new look... sold the old ones, so I can't go back!

did you have to change the shock absorbers?
is the e320 now riding harsh because of lower profile tires?

No, I didn't change out the shocks at this point. I would like to have the vehicle lowered by about 1.25-1.50". Possibly the shocks would be replaced at that time...

The ride is firmer than with the previous OEM 16"s but not unreasonably, especially compared to going to 19"s. I think using the 18"s was a good compromise.

Now that is one unique color you have there! I've never seen it before, what do they call that color?

I put Lorinser 18" RS4's on my 2000 E430 about a week ago and I really like the way the car looks now. No regrets at all. I could tell a small degradation of ride quality at first but now I'm accustomed to it.

just fitted 18"-8" front and 18-8.5" in back. definite improvement in handling.
slight loss in comfort if pavement is poor, a tad slower off the line, but for
the most part, it was no where near the harsh ride I was led might occur in
switching from 16" to 18". definitely a keeper. but, like Richard i'll likely go
with lowering springs and would be nice if I could get more rebound damping
as well.

I haven't decided yet; I emailed Kronen Tuning in Fremont, CA with some specific questions regarding their recommendations and cost. I got a few responses back, but never the specifics; hopefully someone there will follow up. I would like to lower it by about 1.25" to 1.50", I just don't know the easiest or best way.

Ive just recently lowered my car with H & R with 19" I-forged staggered. I am satisfy with the look and better traction. Handling wise, a little different with the stocks but its manageble.

hah.....and I keep waiting for you to test your new set up so that I can copy
what you did. i've been spending time going through the archives and it seems
quite apparent that the popular set up is H&R or Eibach lowering springs for
that amount of drop. then the other variables are spacers and shocks. I
care less about the looks and more on the ride.

the factory shocks I have seem underdamped on compression and underdamped
on rebound. but when I try to find out the tech specs on the Bilsteins or
Konis, i just get general descriptions eg 'more control' or 'firmer yet still
compliant' etc.

so until i figure this out, i'm pimping around town with a gap as wide as
like Mike Tyson's front teeth.

hey, the calipers are showing now and i need to do something about their
raggedy appearance. one of those Ebay decals or fake Brembo covers, eh?
....or just paint black ?!

rob: looks decent from certain angles, ride is fairly close to stock on the
straight and good pavement. much quicker response when jitterbugging
through pylons ......(waking up).......I mean traffic circles.

Hey Raymond;

Maybe I'll resend the last email from Kronen Tuning to me as a reminder; seems like they should have been able to come up with some recommendations for me by now. I'll post their response; I haven't really been too pushy for answers, as sooner or later they might be doing some work on it and don't want anyone angry with me. Plus, we've been having your weather (rain, rain and more rain) and mine has never been driven in the rain, so I'd want to wait for good weather anyway.
