Need to find missing air box lid clamp
I am missing one of the clamps that secures the air box lid on my 1999 E300D. Checked with the dealer and he believes I have to buy an entire air box and clamps are not sold separately. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Any suggestions where I might find a replacement clamp?

Thanks.

I'm not much of a mechanic, but I'd ask another dealer about the clamp if I were you - sounds a little fishy to me. Just curious, how much do they want to charge you for the whole box?

Try a local dismantler. I've had great luck finding oddball pieces and parts that way for the old 190E. There are a couple in SoCal who are really good and will send pics of the items in question prior to shipping. Google is your friend

I believe that all the late model cars use the same clamps. Our '02 wagon has identical clamps which means I should be able to find the clamp on a gasser which will be much easier than spec-ing a 1999 diesel !

I recently ordered a latch for my 1997 E320. The first latch I got looks like the one you need, but it was not the one I wanted. (There are two different latch types on my car.) Anyway, the latches are only about $6 and can be ordered separately. Maybe your dealer can't be bothered for $6.

Chris, thanks for your comments. Any way you can reference the P/Ns for me?
I took a latch off the '02 wagon - - they are not the same. It's a beefier design and won't fit the 1999 car.
Thx.

uber,
You may also want to wrap up the turbo or create a heat shield for the airbox - I've seen a bunch of airbox's from th eturbo OM606's witht he airbox warping from heat right @ the area you are missing the clip. Our '99 also has warpage @ that spot... Just food for thought.
