how much oil does your W210 burn?

That's about 2/3 qt. The interval from high to low is ~2 qts.
I wouldn't get alarmed yet. I've noticed that temperature causes swings in the oil level on my E320. (Hot oil is slightly less dense & reads higher than cold oil??)
However you check your oil, do it consistently so that you're not comparing apples to oranges. I always check it in the garage, ~15 minutes after shutting the engine off (fully warmed up).
Of course check the underside for leaks and check the coolant for oil emulsion.

My 97 E320 doesn't burn any noticable amount between oil changes. I change every 8,000 miles or 6 months. Not bad for a 10 year old car. My guess is that if you're forced to add oil between changes, you may want to have it looked at...

thx for the replies guys. it sounds like W210s usually do NOT burn oil. I used auto-rx additive in the car for the last 1500 miles so that might have caused some oil consumption.
btw my highway MPG actually improved, i got 23.8MPG in the beginning but ended up w/ 25.8MPG at the end of my 1200 mile trip.
i just changed the oil again so i'll keep an eye on it.

I'd get that auto-rx crap out of your engine ASAP. I used that junk last spring and my engine performance, sound, mileage has been in the crapper ever since. My mechanic berated me for using it...

What is this stuff? I wouldn't dream of using an oil additive, but must admit that I use Chevron's Techron gasoline additive (I use their gas exclusively too) to the fuel tank every 3000 miles (as they recommend). The service manager at my dealer said that's what they use as part of the "B" service, so I am comfortable with that.

Usually is the operative word here. The W210 problematic engines are some of the 430s. A Class Action lawsuit was brought, and won, by some guy and the settlement bears his name, which I have forgotten.
If you suspect that your 430 is burning oil, and you want to glom on to the lawsuit, there is a specific protocol you must follow. It involves having an oil change at a franchised dealer, and returning (I think it must be to the same dealer) after the specified number of miles. They change the oil again and measure what they drain out. If your car uses more than the "permissable" maximum amount, Daimler gives you a new engine.
If you suspect that your 430 is using oil (not leaking it of course) I think it is worth a couple of $100 on the chance that you might get a fresh engine.
