Any particular reason (other than marketing) why the baseline run stopped at 5000 RPM and the run with your ECU modification went all the way up to 6000 RPM redline?
The baseline HP was still on an upward trajectory when cut short at 5000 RPM.

This dyno is based on an unlocked C320 engine which is capped at 5000rpm in stock form due to a lack of a dyno mode.
Fortunately, our tuner is the first in the industry to get over this hurdle by unlocking the engine through the ECU tune and allowing us to dyno the engine to its full 6000rpm potential.

I don't understand the technical reasons why a stock 320 motor, which has a stock redline of 6000 RPM, can only reach 5000 RPM on the dyno. You understand this far better than I.
What I do understand is that this isn't an appropriate comparison. Irrespective of the cause, the artificial rev limitation means that your comparison is only valid below 5000 RPM. Your peak horsepower/torque numbers for stock vs. modified do not relate to each other.
Suppose you could only reach 1500 RPM on the dyno with a stock ECU. Would you post a chart showing that the engine with modified ECU at 6000 RPM has 200 more HP than the stock engine at 1500 RPM?
The graph looks like the modified ECU adds about 5-10 HP at 5000 RPM. An improvement -- but only half what you would lead us to believe.

The issue is that there is a lock on the stock ECU that prevents us from tuning th ebaseline all the way up to the 6000 RPM.
The ECU tuning allowed us to unlock the car for dyno purposes thereby running it to it's full 6000rpm redline. For comparison purposes, it is completely compatible as the car makes peak power BEFORE the 6000rpm mark.

There's a reason MB limited the ECU to 5000rpm, probably for a nice blend between performance and durability. I've always been very hesitant with changing the specs on (almost) 10 y/o engines just like that. Do you really think this is all worth the $$$ and effort and risk for like 20hp more on already 200hp engines?

Well I just got back from Speed Innovation and I am EXTREMELY impressed to say the least. We did dyno runs BEFORE and AFTER the install. I should mention that my car is a 2001 325i Steptronic with a GruppeM intake which yielded ~5HP at the crank.
On to the more important information. This was dyno'd using a Dynapak dyno system, I have provided pictures as well as video links to show you how it was setup. Multiple runs were done for baseline and after and only after we received consistent gains did we save the info as pictured below.
My car was tuned with the standard 325 software that will go into all M54 325's. Software is also available for ALL E46's, M54 and M56 engines. That's right, they have software with similar gains for you M56 folk. In any case, the dynos speak for themselves. Realize this is WHEEL HP and estimated crank is about a 15HP gain and over 20TQ gain.
My impressions of the car after...well the car pulls MUCH more in the lower end where it needed it. In every gear, the car is much stronger throughout the rev band. As you can see, the software is not peaky at all, it maintain's the linearity of the Inline 6 that BMW is so famous for. Please feel free to take a look and let us know what you think!
Pictures of the dyno as well as the dyno itself are below, videos are to follow!

Hey guys,
I just uploaded a PDF file with some information about SpeedInnovation ECU tuning... How it works, what the gains are about, what the company is about... etc.
It also shows all MBZ models they tune and has the gains on there!

Enjoy!

Just passing along a cool video and dyno of the latest Speed Innovation creation, a Ferrari 355.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5r27J8paCzE
![](http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e146/BMWERKEN/Ferrari355.jpg)
This was performed on a DYNOJET system and the top run file is stock. Several run files appear as Speed Innovation tuned, dyno'd, tuned some more, dyno'd etc...until reaching the final run file.
Enjoy!
