How much should a '99 W210 go for?

I've read on eclassbenz.com that W210s go for an average of $15K, but I'd like to know everyone's thoughts on this: a relative (or rather my wife's relative) is getting a new A8 and is selling her '99 E320. Silver w/gray interior. Only 26K miles! This car goes from home garage to work garage, maybe 6 miles roundtrip. Was serviced at the dealer until the warranty ran out, after which was taken to a shop started by the former MB service manager. Being that it's a pre-facelift car, I will have to do lower body paint or tasteful body kit and will do suspension/wheels no matter what, so I have to take that into account before making an offer.

What do you think?

That $15k figure -- which was used to illustrate what a bargain a W210 is comparsed to, say, a new Honda Civic -- was based on the average of W210 sales for all years, all models, and a wide range of mileage & condition from eBay many months ago. Actual prices vary considerably depending on the specific car.

15k seems about right for a car with that lower mileage. It seems great. Try to bargain down to 14k though.

You should pay no more than 11,000 for that car, older e320's aren't exactly flying off the lots since Mercedes started having all of these quality issues. I would buy it in a second for 10k, but you are not going to have much competition for the car. Heck, I'll sell you my 01 e430 4matic for 15k right now.

if you pay 11k for that car up here in the Seattle area, you're ripping the
owner off....or, you're getting a killer deal. even if one avgs out the myriad
of value guide out there, $14-15 is still the prevailing price, especially if
the car is in immaculate condition and low mileage. just get the car to
a dealer and pay the $200 or so to have it inspected. Also, ask if all the
TSBs or service campaigns are up to date for this VIN. have them check
spring perch rust possiblity for sure....which seems to be in some twilight
zone for TSB.

even if this model isn't flying off the shelf, it has much going for it in terms
of availability of parts, accessories, etc. it has a strong user base and thus,
decent aftermarket support. color is classic and not some strange unwanted
model...should be just fine if you're happy with fairly reliable V6 W210. be
clear of the E320 anomalies which make up this forum and there shouldn't be
any harsh surprises.

Well, the situation has changed somewhat. They are no longer getting an A8, rather an A6 Quattro. The Audi dealership is offering $11K for the E, so if I can match that, its mine. I think its a no-brainer at this point. Thanks everyone for the (mostly) good input.

I cant believe how quickly values are dropping.

My dad traded in a 00 E320 w/120k on it for 13.5, I bought my 01 with 68k for 15 flat...

Are the facelifted ones worth a bit more?

EDIT: he traded his in in 2/06 and I bought mine in 7/06

Did i call this or what?!

"You should pay no more than 11,000 for that car, older e320's aren't exactly flying off the lots since Mercedes started having all of these quality issues"

By the way, the car is a hell of a buy at 11k. It's not your fault the values dropped so low, and to your credit your smart enough to reap the benefit

Uh, not exactly. I think that the dealership never gives a very good trade-in value and low-balled them. Also, the difference is that here in Hawaii, there is a limited market for good used cars. I was actually willing to pay 14-15K for this car considering the shape that its in, and that I know the driver, all service records LOW (even for Oahu which is 70 miles across) mileage. Most of what I see for sale here is 15-18K and this is for older, higher milage W210s. I think the newer, post-merger cars are going to have worse quality issues.

Regardless, it's a relative so if you can get the car for even around $12k with those low miles, it's a win situation. You will be able to run that thing forever and it's very well built. The 00-02 side rocker skirts are inexpensive and will update the car beautifully. If you don't want to change the front and rear bumpers right now just paint the lower black portions to match, throw some shocks and springs and a set of 19's and you'll have a great looking and handling machine. Good luck!

1999 E300td

I have a 1999 E300 TD with 37K that I bought new. I have watch the E Class values for several years now going steadily down. The E300TD was $3,000 cheaper that an E320 when new. A really clean 1999 with relatively low miles could sell for $16 to $20K depending on what section of the country you try to sell it in.

Its been a great car. Just the trans fluid totally replaced. All other fluids have been changed because of time rather than mileage. The FSS system means nothing on low mileage cars.

Hey ProV1, we have similar tastes or a coincidence in cars. Had and sold my E420, M3, 325ic, 325is, Honda CRV (co car) and now have my E55. That's funny...
