HID Setup

Alright, Tommy made a good point saying why not just go HID. Well guess what? I'm going to sell my projectors and do just that. I'm putting the projectors back into ye ol' box and replacing them with my OEM. Ordered the Slim HID kit....I'll post pictures once I receive the product!

I would think your projector will have better cut-off for the HID kit.
your OEM lens will produce way too much glare for incoming traffic.

I really don't like the projector compared to the OEM because it just seals better ,and it made of better quality. Either way I ordered the HID kit and I will try it on both lenses too see the better outcome. Should be fun to put in tho, whats your take on 8000k?

lxl....it's highly unlikely that your OEM reflector headlamp will handle the HID
kit w/o producing dangerous glare. for your year, the HID was only made
in reflector design, so at the very least, you'd want to go for a kit with D2R
bulb. most HID kits sold are using D2S bulbs

Listen to Raymond!!!
He really know his stuff and help me out a lot while I still on my W210.

As for the color choice, I got the 4300K HID kit on my W211.

I want the HID because I need more light, NOT the color effect.
(evidently, 4300K is OEM color has lower wavelength travel further compare to 8000k.)

If you want Both good light and pure white, you might not want to go higher than 5000k. (even 6000k give you bluish effect and 8000K is quite bluish if cops want to give you a hard time he can spot your 8000k quite easily!!!! )

I think those black projectors look really nice. Put the stockies back in and retrofit the black ones.

Next to rims, I think a HID retro is the second biggest item which sets your car apart from all the other 210's.

Drop some Phillips Ultinon 6000K's in after the retro; upgrade to the cheapo clear fogs and your car will look bad ****.

If simply for color effect or appearance wise....do whatever you want.
If you are looking for true performance.
You definitely do NOT want clear fog light neither!!!!
( perhaps you guys never read my post? )

It's going to be a pain retro fitting the projectors into the OEM housing or vise versa. Lets say I had decided to retro fit the hardware, what would I do? Improve the seal? Raymond, if I were to use the black projectors could I still use the D2S bulbs without it becoming a dangerous hazard? Sorry for all of the questions but it happens.

it comes down to expenses and your desire for quality. in my opinion, the
cheapest you can get a OEM quality HID is to spend another $400. you
already have the projector based headlight. you'd open it and toss the
Depo projector - it is junk. the lens and bowl are poorly designed. purchase
E55 bixenon projectors for $175~, D2S bulbs for $80, ballasts for $200.

example of the above....my Depo mod w/E55, followed by Zam2000's but I forgot the specs on his

yes, you can drop in an HID rebased bulb (aka HID kit) but bear in mind that
the Depo projector is designed (again, poorly) for halogen bulb and not optimized
for HID bulb/specifications. cost of an HID kit ranges from $200-450 or so for
unknown/mediocre quality parts.

example of Depo w/HID kit from the 203/208 boards. note glare and hot spots

so you have a choice of quality beam, which will require your opening up the
headlight and fitting it in (degree of difficulty is intermediate...not beginner,
not difficult). or, you can go with super easy install with the HID kit but the
quality will be noticably poorer and likely/potential glare to other drivers.

no, you really shouldn't attempt to HID mod your OEM reflector headlight. it
*will* result in dangerous glare.

Alright, back to the ol' ebay. Thanks for the descriptive explanation of what to use correctly, I think I will follow with what you are saying and do it correctly the first time.

Steps?
- Strip wiring & projector out of the Depo Lights
- Order E55 Bixenon Projectors
- Order D2S Bulbs
- Order Ballasts
- Install items

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, do plenty of research over at www.hidplanet.com . Don't worry about a harness.

Ray helped me with mine via email....just do your homework, go slow and you'll be fine. (thanks again Ray, I was formerly C-2 on here).

One other thing I learned - make sure your cap is seated securely on the bulb. Mine appeared to be, but wasn't, and it fried the cap and led to a failure. I had to buy another Denso ballast

installed in Depo - which I still have. Still haven't gotten off my butt to create
the Depo/RS6 yet. Prob wont have time until Summer.
